CorSera: Ibrahimovic will be in Empoli – how he is surprising everyone in his new role

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to Italy yesterday after a few days on vacation in Miami and immediately went to Milanello to visit the team and Stefano Pioli.

As Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes this morning, Ibrahimovic also attended training yesterday alongside directors Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio, who will certainly have updated him on the plans for the January mercato.

In his new role as an advisor both for RedBird Capital but also for the Milan management, he will also be responsible for having his say on the transfer plans despite the fact he has only been in the position for a few weeks.

Since his appointment, Ibra’s approach has surprised many especially if we think about what he was like as a player: in these first weeks as a consultant, the Swede is in fact thinking above all about listening, observing and analysing.

At Milanello he asks everyone questions – the players, coach, staff, managers and even the groundskeepers – because for Zlatan everything is new and therefore before acting he wants to understand.

“I don’t want to be a symbol, I want to make a difference,” the Swede declared a few weeks ago, knowing full well that to be decisive even behind the desk. His enormous leadership is not enough, because he also needs the utmost competence.

These are therefore weeks of learning for the 41-year-old, but every time he enters Milanello, he shocks everyone. Having a motivator like him in the group is fundamental, his former team-mates often repeat this.

This will also be the case on Sunday in Empoli, when Ibrahimovic will be at the Stadio Carlo Castellani alongside the team in the last match of the first half of the 2023-24 Serie A season.
