CorSera: Injuries ill-timed but Milan proved they are ready for season opener

By Isak Möller -

The pre-season has come to an end and AC Milan can be rather pleased with the outcome. If the win against Marseille wasn’t enough, the Rossoneri proved that they are ready with last night’s 6-1 trashing against Vicenza.

There have been ups and downs for Stefano Pioli’s men this pre-season, naturally, but the last two games have proved that they are ready for the season opener. Given the early start of the season, it would be harsh to demand more at this point.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Corriere Della Sera (via MilanNews), Milan were sloppy to concede after just 20 seconds but they reacted immediately. From that point on, there was no doubt about which team was the better side.

The fact that Milan bagged six goals speaks for itself with regards to the performance, but there is still a bitter taste in Pioli’s mouth due to the injuries sustained. Junior Messias might make it back for Udinese, but the case isn’t the same for Tonali and tests will be done today to understand his injury.

  1. I’ve been writing this from the Botman days.
Milan will suffer many injuries this season,we cannot close our eyes on that and not bring players in.
We need a quality CB, a super quality MC, RW and a striker….Origi is still out…not to mention he missed all the preseason training.

    1. There is not enough registration space to accomodate all four (CB, MC, RW, & ST) per your demand. Serie A squad size is limited to 25 players, the only way to increase it by that much is using U21 players. Are there any quality U21 left in the market?

      1. Ok at least one MC and a RW who can also play in the attack.
Milan should’ve passed players for loan.
There are players who can’t / won’t offer anything: Gabbia, Bakayoko, Shalemakers…

        1. We already sign that one just now:

          Name: Charles De Ketelaere
          Position: CM/RM/LM/AM/RW/LW/SS/CF

          His versatility is ridiculous.

      2. Yes agree with you. Our current squad have hardly comply the CL registration ACM Home-Grown only 3 (Gabbia, Calabria, Pobega) and Lazetic U21 can completed the 25 players.

And look at our primavera mercato now : Hugo Cuence (17 years old), Cathal Heffernan (17 years old), Leonardo D’Alessio (18 years old), and Tomasso Mancini in progress.
And forget others primavera potentials : Andrei Coubis, Antonio Gala, Lukas Bjorklund, Andrea Capone, Chaka Traore, Emil Roback.

Yes we have a bunch promising players in primavera this season because Primavera had a bad season last season.

Im optimist about our depth currently even i think we only need consider the outgoings only : Jungdal & Brescianini (Loasn), Brahim Diaz & Tiemoue Bakayoko (Cancel loan) because they are surplus for 25 players in CL registration.

        1. Milan actually exclude Castillejo and Pellegri from UCL squad last season.

But Castillejo was still registered at the 25-men squad for Serie A. Pellegri/Lazetic and Kalulu were not registered but can still play at Serie A (unlike UCL, Serie A do not require minimum 2 season at the club for U21).
