CorSera: Maldini’s exit bad news for De Ketelaere – he could now be sold

Charles De Ketelaere’s future is now in the balance after the shock news that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have both been sacked, a report claims.

According to Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan), one of the reasons that prompted Cardinale to break with Maldini was the failure of the 2022 summer transfer window and in particular the choice of the directors to invest 70% of the available budget (€35m euros out of €50m) on a single player.

That player is De Ketelaere who had a very disappointing first season with zero goals and only one assist in 40 games across all competitions to his name, and that raises questions about his future too.

It was Maldini who strongly pursued him last summer and invested a large amount after weeks of negotiations, only to eventually lose his job partly because of that strategy.

There is no arguing that the Belgian’s first season was a flop and, therefore, Cardinale’s new Milan seem willing to let him leave. However, the right solution must be found in terms of transfer fee and destination.

    1. Typical of the foolish. Comment and react too early. Lke you know the club better than the owner. This Cardinale guy get very rich because he is not dumb. At least give him a chance.

  1. I love it how CDK gets pinned on Maldini exclusively.

Who is that scout that doesn’t seem to look at a players outside of France and Belgium?

I can’t help but notice how Moncada, the guy who has no public opinions, is always right.

    1. Yup and he’s not even Maldini first choice to begin with. Even so, of course Maldini is not perfect. Several mistakes are normal, moreover if we’re looking at the bigger picture.

  2. If he is sold, that would mean that Maldini acted on his own when he pushed for CDK to be signed and he wasn’t one of Moncada’s recommended players.
Why would Moncada, if he is taking over now, sell someone he recommended after only 1 season?
As Nicolo Schira said today on Twitter, a lot of Moncadas recommendations were ignored by Maldini and Massara.
He even mentioned Kolo Muani and Enzo, 2 players that Moncada pushed for and Milan could have signed for 10 mil combined. He said one of them was sold for 121 mil and the other is about to be sold for 90 mil.

    1. Stop bringing Enzo, he already had deal with Benfica when Moncada met him at Argentina. Moncada was late finishing the scouting report hence why Milan didn’t sign him.

      1. Martin Guastadisegno – an agent who acted as intermediary for Italian clubs in the negotiations over a deal that could have brought Enzo Fernandez to Serie A

“Contacts with Milan begin in March and in May Geoffrey Moncada was in Argentina to talk to the player and see him play live. He would have accepted on the run, he wanted Italy and immediately said yes to the possibility of moving to the Rossoneri,” he said.

        1. In May, just a day after Enzo met Moncada, Benfica announced they had signed Enzo with the agreement had been found few days prior. It was too late when Moncada met him.

  3. Yup and he’s not even Maldini first choice to begin with. Even so, of course Maldini is not perfect. Several mistakes are normal, moreover if we’re looking at the bigger picture.

  4. Yes good to be sold but Acmilan must get kamanda Daichi and Lazar sardmardzic then attacking midfield is solved already

  5. This is what I don’t understand. Maldini wanted botman as his first choice and big summer move. He was told no. He wanted ziyech, dybala, zaniolo he was told no. Cdk was brought up and shared by everyone given his age and potential and Maldini after weeks brings him in and after he fails Maldini is the scapegoat? Cardinale SPECIFICALLY wanted cdk over a defender and now he puts the blame on Maldini for it. Coward of a guy!

    1. IF they are to blame Maldini for CDK being a flop then sure, do it but then also need to praise him for bringing Tonali, Leao, Theo and Mike.
ffs CDK is a 30M project (he can still be good), Even mighty Madrid gets it wrong (hazard) and let’s not talk about chelsea.

  6. Do we need him to leave and then shine like De Bruyne when he left Chelsea to make the owner realize that youth players need time to succeed? I guess with the new ownership, Leao would have been sold cheap after his first season and Tonali never redeemed.

  7. It will be really stupid to sell him now, unless someone is willing to pay good money for him, which I don’t believe in the present circonstances..

  8. stupid Cardinale bastard. Demand more from the existing squad and blame Mercato, while you are very stingy with spending money. You just want money from fans around the world.
