Rafael Leao had his big breakthrough this past season as he managed to perform on a consistently high level throughout, leading AC Milan to their first Scudetto in eleven years. Inevitably, the big clubs are watching on.
Milan are optimistic about the future and talks are ongoing with Leao’s agent, Jorge Mendes, about a contract renewal. It would include a significant pay rise and a new deadline until 2026, should they reach an agreement.
According to today’s edition of Corriere Della Sera (via MilanNews), the likes of Real Madrid and PSG are monitoring the situation of Leao with great interest. And the €150m release clause in his contract doesn’t scare them. In fact, they have inquired Mendes about the situation.
The feeling is that Leao will end up renewing his contract with Milan, but nothing can be ruled out in the world of football. Furthermore, €150m is a figure that is hard to turn down even for a player like Leao, who will be hard to replace.
The management should put over 200M release clause for immense potential players like pedri, benzema, ansu fati, etc.
Pedri Ansu Fati have 1 bn clause. Think we should also do that 500mn min. Barca started doing it after Neymar moved to PSG when they paid his release clause.
That high release clause that teams in Spain include in the contracts is mandated by the Spanish federation so they don’t lose players to other leagues without the say of their teams.
Plus for Milan to include that in Leao or any player contract, the player and his agent has to agree on that. It’s not just what the club wants. Look at Haaland, his release clause negotiated by Mino was only 60 mil, for a player that is worth 160. That way the player puts pressure on the club to be competitive or he gets to leave for a affordable price without the club obstruction
This season Leao has only been behind Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. So, P$G and RM don’t look realistic destinations this summer. But, you can never tell.
