CorSera: Regrets inevitable but Milan must focus on Europa League and derby

By Isak Möller -

Milan secured their sixth consecutive win las night as they managed to beat Fiorentina 2-1. It was a very strong performance by Stefano Pioli’s men who have been in great form lately, but they cannot afford to have any regrets.

It took Milan some time, but they are finally flying this season. As Corriere della Sera highlights this morning (via MilanNews), the performance against Fiorentina showcased what has been a reality for Milan in 2024: they are on par with Inter.

Between Serie A and Europa League, the Rossoneri bagged their sixth consecutive win and four of these were in the league. In just a few weeks, Milan have recovered seven points on Juventus and now sit six points ahead of the Bianconeri.

Considering that fourth place is not 14 points away, the Rossoneri have also more or less secured Champions League qualification. Inevitably, with a trend of this type, regrets may increase for what happened in November when the gap with Inter was created: just two points out of 12 possible between Juve, Napoli, Udinese and Lecce.

Milan cannot afford to think about regrets, as the newspaper continues, given that they still have a lot to play for in these two months. The main focus, especially now that the second position appears to be safe, is the Europa League.

Two very good performances will be needed against Roma, then the goal is obviously to take home the trophy. Then there will also be the derby on April 22, with the Rossoneri keen on breaking the negative derby trend.

  1. Wasn’t November the month we had to put Theo as a cb because the whole defence was injured? Funny how these things can derail a season 🤔

    1. No, our CB pairing in those games were Tomori-Thiaw (3matches) and Tomori-Kalulu.

Theo played as CD starting at Sassuolo (31/12).

So our bad form at those matches isn’t because of injury problem…
