CorSera: Romagnoli no longer an undisputed starter for Milan – Pioli’s strong message

By Isak Möller -

Alessio Romagnoli, the captain of Milan, has had a very tough period in recent months which culminated in him getting dropped. After the return mid-week, he will be on the bench yet again this weekend.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Corriere Della Sera (via MilanNews), the defender no longer is an undisputed starter in the team. He made a goal-line clearance last time out, but he also could have done better on the goal conceded.

Stefano Pioli’s message, in that sense, is very clear: he’s currently not the best option to start. And since he’s the captain, it’s a strong message. Fikayo Tomori has been very impressive since his arrival in January and his partnership with Simon Kjaer has worked well.

Having said that, the season is still very long and there will be opportunities for Romagnoli to bounce back. It won’t be easy, though, and he will have to grith his teeth and work even harder in training to show his qualities.
