Stefano Pioli has done a tremendous job since he took over AC Milan in 2019 and with two games left of this season, the Scudetto is in their hands. An amazing turnaround that few expected when he was brought in.
The Rossoneri are currently two points ahead of their city rivals Inter and could get their revenge from last season, when they finished in 2nd place. They need four points from the remaining two games, provided that the Nerazzurri win their games.
In any case, Pioli’s amazing work with this squad is there for everyone to see and even if Milan were to fail in their Scudetto pursuit, he deserves praise. Very few, as said, could have imagined this less than three years ago and that says a lot.
What also says a lot is the numbers. As pointed out by Corriere Dello Sport (see photo below), only Fabio Capello has done better than Pioli in terms of average points per game. Pioli is currently a 1.96 and Capello was at 2.2 between 1991 and 1996.
Hopefully it translates to winning the league, if not it’s just statistics!
To say it would only be statistics if we doesnt win the scudetto this year might be right on paper but on the other hand you simply cant discredit that it would still be an impressive feat that we actually is fighting for the scudetto untill the end with a team that player for player isnt as well equipped as inter, juventus and napoli.
I dont know if you are of the milan “fans” that want us to get a more high profiled coach even though there is slim possibilities that they would improve his stats but i dont get why all people isnt more than impressed with what he has achieved with small means which is an extraordinary accomplishment regardless if we win or end up second.
Pioli has done something magical with this team. Since after Atalanta 0-5, we have barely played a bad game. There are times when I’ve definately questioned his match coaching. But one can’t argue with his overall performance as a coach for this team. He has really created a team and in that team helped foster some real diamonds and also made some oldies like Kjaer shine more than ever.
And look at the squad Capello had – Albertini Savicevic Weah Maldini etc etc Pioli’s performing miracles in my book.
My prediction, Milan will draw against Atalanta but win against Sassuolo.
Gtf outta here
