It could be argued that AC Milan’s best business of the window was keeping their core at the club. With Mike Maignan’s contract close to being extended, securing the long-term future of Theo Hernandez will be the focus.
Before the summer mercato began, fears were growing about a star departing Milan with interest present in Theo, Maignan and Rafael Leao. However, the French duo were more likely to depart, so to speak, due to their contractual situations.
Leao’s contract extension gave the Rossoneri protection, with his release clause, so his departure was unlikely. With Maignan and Theo both having 2026 expirations, though, they were targeted.
As we know, neither departed, and the focus is now protecting assets and because the goalkeeper’s extension is slightly easier to finalise, the Diavolo have prioritised extending his deal rather than Theo’s – where talks have not begun yet.
However, this could change shortly with Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) suggesting that Theo and his entourage will come to the table after his compatriot’s deal is finalised. A salary increase is a given, and the main point of focus will be the increase amount.
The left-back is believed to be picturing a salary in the region of €7-8 million per season, which is ‘probably too high for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Giorgio Furlani’. Nevertheless, it is a figure that can, and will, be worked on and ‘both parties are keen to find a common ground’, according to the report. Certainly positive signs.
If it’s too high for Z & Furlani, then the best thing for all parties would be sacking those two idiots.
Too expensive for Zlatan and Furlani…
I can remember how Mino Raiola always make Zlatan and other clients earn big pay ro renew
