CorSport: Derby important but Milan’s new-found depth will decide the Scudetto

By Isak Möller -

The Derby della Madonnina is just one week away and it’s an important game, as always, for AC Milan and Inter. However, it will not decide anything in the Scudetto race, as highlighted by a newspaper.

Milan and Inter have both collected 9/9 points thus far and that winning run will come to an end on Saturday for one of the sides, or perhaps both. Although the outcome is important, the derby will not decide anything in the Scudetto race.

This was highlighted in today’s edition of Corriere Dello Sport (via MilanNews), stating that depth will be a far more important factor. Milan lacked this last season and thanks to the new signings, Stefano Pioli will be hoping for a better campaign on that front.

Inter were clearly superior in the second half of last season and much of this can be attributed to depth. The Nerazzurri had options off the bench and the Rossoneri struggled, resulting in their stars lacking energy across the two competitions (Serie A and Champions League).

Pioli’s men dropped points in games they should have won and the manager was forced to make a lot of rotation, making life easy for Napoli at the top of the standings. This time out, the story will hopefully be different.
