CorSport: ‘An endless nightmare’ – the stats since Milan’s last derby win

AC Milan have not tasted success in the Derby della Madonnina in two years, and since then much has changed, but the results stay the same. Today, a report looked into the stats since the last success, whilst also looking at the fact there could be differences next time the clubs play.

There are few things that Milan fans want more than derby day success, and this weekend is the latest instalment of the Milanese derby. Already there is a gap between the two clubs, one that could be doubled or decimated by the end of Sunday.

Unfortunately, the Rossoneri are less than confident about the fixture, and their hopes of removing the gap are low, after all, their recent successes do not give them any reason to hope.

As Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) reports, since the 3-2 where Rafael Leao shone, there have been six consecutive losses which began in January 2023 in Riyadh. Humiliation also occurred in the last meeting, when the Diavolo were helpless to stop Inter winning the Scudetto.

The results are negative, but the stats paint the picture even worse. Two goals scored, and 14 conceded. To make this even worse, Milan have been without a goal in four of the six defeats. It must end, for the sake of the fans, but also for Fonseca, whose job relies on a win.

  1. The telling metric is not whether they win but how they look doing that. Even if Milan wins ( which is highly unlikely), if they get pummeled on the day and Inter wipe the floor with them it will still not be excusable. Fonseca does not only need to win but do it with grace and dignity. Let’s not masked the issues we are all aware of. This is a journey not a sprint and they really need to show up.
