There continues to be optimism over the recovery of Olivier Giroud in time for the derby against Inter, but Luka Jovic is warming up just in case.
This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) reports that Giroud sustained a slight sprain in his left ankle during the France-Ireland match last week, which was a qualifier for the 2024 European Championships.
It was a setback that came nine days before the derby and while what filtered was that it was not a serious problem, he left the France camp and returned to Italy given Les Bleus’ next game was a friendly against Germany (which Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez played in last night).
Yesterday at Milanello, Giroud carried out individual training as scheduled. Today the French centre-forward – who has been a starter in the last eight derbies – will try to rejoin the rest of the squad.
He could well make Saturday’s derby, even if his situation remains to be monitored, and his alternative would be Luka Jović who did his first training session with the squad yesterday after returning from Serbia duty.
We all know Pioli will start Giroud even though he shouldn’t. There won’t be any surprise starters as Pioli doesnt have mental capacity to trust anyone but his tried and trusted players and everyone else will get minimal minutes during season where they contribute nothing and fans get frustrated with them cuz they got ‘a lot of chances’ meanwhile that chance being 15 min per match max.
I think we have to be careful as the season is long ..
We have to start rotating some players …
Yes I would start the same 11 as against Roma ..
Yes I am a huge fan of Olivier Giroud and of course hope he is fit enough to start …We have such a strong squad and if managed correctly can win the scuddeto this season…I do believe it will be us or inter who will finish top ..I hope it is us …We must rotate players in all positions when needed ,otherwise we can face burnout..looking forward to the match on Saturday.
