CorSport: Giroud to start against Atalanta – he is eager to repay Milan after ban

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are back in league action on Saturday evening when they face Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium, and Stefano Pioli will welcome back one of his key performers.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) looks ahead to the game in Bergamo at the weekend, which will see Milan take on Atalanta with a nine-point advantage after La Dea lost three of their last four games in the league.

After having obtained three points at home against Fiorentina and Frosinone, the Rossoneri want to continue their positive run in the league against Gian Piero Gasperini’s team , who were defeated 0-3 last night by Torino.

A positive bit of news on the selection front is the return of Olivier Giroud, Milan’s top scorer this season with seven goals in Serie A. He was sent off against Lecce and had to serve a two-match ban, which he did in the Fiorentina and Frosinone games.

Now, the 37-year-old Frenchman is preparing to return to the starting line-up with the desire to repay the team after he missed a couple of games. Luka Jovic will be waiting in the wings to take over, having scored at the weekend and provided an assist.

    1. Actually, the only penalty Pulisic has EVER missed, for club or country, was for Milan, during the preseason, and he tapped in the rebound.

  1. I hope they keep playing Jovic so he can get a good run of games. Let Giroud slowly come back into this. Maybe last 30 mins or so. And then play the UCL 🤷‍♂️

  2. I disagree completely on this ..Olivier Giroud is the man to lead the line ..He is technically a much better player ,and indeed has vital experience..He is also our top scorer and indeed second top scorer in sera A.
With Giroud leading the line we will win against Atalanta , and possibly beat Newcastle in the champions leauge ..Fortunately for us we are getting our best players back including the brilliant Loftus cheek and pulisic ( I did also tell you all this ) if Loftus and pulisic remain injury free we can beat anyone..yes anyone…I have also been very impressed with Musah .can’t wait for Rafeo leao to return..
I have confidence in our team and our manager pioli .
Things are looking good for us at the moment.

  3. It’s good to see players that were at Chelsea get their chances and see them flourish here: Pulisic, Giroud and RLC. Then again lots of players left Chelsea and are having their moments elsewhere. No knock on Chelsea, but their roster was too crowded for so long. Glad to see those boys land in Milan.
