CorSport: Maldini’s future to be discussed as part of meeting with Cardinale

By Oliver Fisher -

Paolo Maldini’s future at the club will be one of the talking points that Gerry Cardinale addresses in his visit to Italy, according to a report.

The season has almost come to an end but first Milan must aim to finish on a high note with a win against Hellas Verona tomorrow evening, and after that it will be time to take stock of what has been an up and down season.

Today’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports that there should be a summit between the management and Milan owner Gerry Cardinale as early as next week to discuss the season and the plans for the future.

There will be many open questions on the table, including the one concerning the future of Paolo Maldini, the current Rossoneri technical director. He and Ricky Massara have a year left on their deal, and thus it is important everyone is on the same page to move forward together.

    1. No Maldini is not Milan, give him a blank cheque for what? so he could sign Diaz, Salad-maker, CDK and the likes. hell no, I hope they caution him about his signings !!!

      1. Not a lifetime contract lol – nobody should get that. BUT he has done much more good than wrong. As we have seen from the Leao renewal – it takes BOTH parties to have the desires to stay. Not only the club. Raiola never wanted Donnaruma to stay and Hakan and Kessie went for the highest paycheck. Move on. Yes he must learn from his past mistakes – BUT guess what – HE HAS. The RENEWALS of Theo, Leao, Benny, Tonali, Tomori, Kalulu etc…and soon to be Mike – to BELOW MARKET DEALS – handcuffed by a WAGE CAP HAS PROVEN THAT. The CORE group of players he has brought in: Leao, Mike, Theo, Thiaw, Kalulu, Tomori, Tonali, Benny for below market deals has us in a much stable position as a club and all while restricted under a limited budget. Had Maldini been allowed to sign the players he really wanted: Koné, Botman Sanches, W Fofana, etc…who knows where we would be. Give the man a real budget and I think he will continue to do well. We move forward together. Forza Milan

    2. Not really. Maldini is Milan of course. But the black cheque and life time contract is a no. He has done a lot for Milan, no one will ever forget that but as a SD, there are some massive weaknesses he must improve on, namely.. negotiating contracts and sales.

If he improves that part, he will reach a new height in being legend that literally NO ONE in the history of football has done before.

      1. Agreed with the blank cheque part. Let’s not forget what happened during Yonghong Li era..It is crucial that Milan do not overspend to keep their finances healthy.

On a side note, Massara is the SD. But regardless you’re spot on the contract negotiation and sales part.
