CorSport: Milan convince and make it five in a row – the break arrives at a bad time

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan won on Sunday against Hellas Verona at the Bentegodi and – taking advantage of Juventus’ dip in form – they are not three points clear of them in second.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes this morning, that gap could prove useful in the next weeks when the fixture list will become increasingly intense between the league and the Europa League.

The Rossoneri are smiling and have perhaps not looked this good since the Scudetto season. It is no coincidence that the points total is very similar to that of two seasons ago but the big difference is Inter’s season so far, which is almost flawless.

Milan, compared to a first half of the season full of ups and downs, have gotten back on track and has done so thanks also to the summer window, which is bearing fruit today.

The main man is certainly Christian Pulisic who was decisive again yesterday with a goal, his 12th of the season which marks his personal best. The American has scored in four consecutive games . Samuel Chukwueze finally scored his first goal in the league, a beautiful and fundamental one too.

Then there are the veterans. Yesterday it was Theo Hernandez who took centre stage with one of the best matches of his career at Milan, according to Stefano Pioli: “I have never seen Theo like this, in terms of his presence in the group, perhaps not even in the year of Scudetto win.”

The victory against Verona on Sunday – against a team in form and coming off two consecutive victories – came under the sign of number five. The three points represent the fifth consecutive victory in the month of March which began with Lazio, continued with Slavia and Empoli and will end, after the break, against Fiorentina.

The number five also appears in the goals scored. Pulisic’s goal was Milan’s 5,000th in Serie A: a historic achievement made possible also by the many goals that the Rossoneri have scored in the recent period.

The fact that the break is coming now, after such a favourable month of March for Milan, ‘seems to be the only discord’. Pioli must make sure his troops return after the international commitments on March 30 against Fiorentina with the same fire.

  1. Again, not to spoil the party but we drew at home against the 2 best teams we faced in 2024 (Bologna and Atalanta) and our 5 games winning streak is made of 2 games against teams facing relegation and 3 games while playing a man up against weaker teams.
To properly assess this team and wether we improved or not, we should wait until April when we’ll face Roma, Juventus and Inter.
