CorSport: Milan put defensive pursuit on hold amid initial €20m demand

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are monitoring the situation of Paris Saint-Germain defender Abdou Diallo as they need to sign a centre-back. They have been forced to take a step back, though, as was explained by a report this morning.

The Rossoneri have been linked with Diallo in the past and given their defensive situation, they have reignited their interest. The Senegalese international is also looking for more playing time and this could facilitate the move.

According to Corriere Dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan have been forced to take a step back as PSG have asked for €20m to part ways with the centre-back. Too much for the Rossoneri, who are eyeing Diallo as a low-cost option.

They are hoping that the French side will lower the claims as time passes, or perhaps an agreement could be reached for a loan instead. In any case, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are making moves also on the defensive front.

    1. You’re saying that Conte, an italian coach, would let go a 23-old defender with a long contract be sold for cheap if he was any good?

The defender needs to be either left-footed and that can play as DL like Diallo so that we can offload Ballo Toure and play him instead either as DL in 4-2-3-1 or left center-back in a 3 center back formation such as 3-4-3 or 3-5-2.

The other option is to get either an Italian player, like Acerbi, since we have one spot open in the lists, or to get an U21 like Hincapie, which doesn’t need to be included in the lists at all.

Hincapie seems like he checks all the boxes, but he’s quite expensive unfortunately… I have no idea how good quality-wise he’s either.
The backup solution is to keep Gabbia and/or confirm Stanga (the captain of the primavera last season), who played a couple of min in one game last season, and hope that in a 3 central defender formation he won’t cause many problems. It would be very risky, especially considering we don’t know how Kjaer will be after injury.

  1. At this rate we might not have a mercato at all unless teams start gifting us players. Nothing is within our price range and it does not seem like the owners could be bothered either. Not even freebies like Dybala are affordable, sad state of affairs.

    1. dybala is in NO WAY a freebie as he would demand 6-7 mil a year + sign on fee for both him and his agent. Milan wouldnt be able to capitalize on the growth decree as the player has already played in italy for many years which would mean that they wouldnt be able to get any discounts on his salary as if it was a player bought in from abroad.
If milan signed dybala for 5 years payng him 6 mil a year it would mean 30 mil which then would be doubled to 60 mil and then adding maybe 10 mil or more in sign on fees.
That doesnt really sound like a freebie does it ?
