CorSport: Milan approaching Leao renewal with patience as €150m clause protects them

By Isak Möller -

Rafael Leao was AC Milan’s best player this past season and he really showed his class in the final ten games. Inevitably, this has attracted the interest of some very big clubs, but the Rossoneri are not worried.

The Portuguese winger’s current contract will expire in 2024 and that means there isn’t a huge rush. However, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are working hard on renewing the contract, with an inevitable pay rise included.

Leao currently earns €1.5m per year, as reported by Corriere Dello Sport (via MilanNews), and Milan are working on what the new figure should be. Maldini and Massara are approaching the matter with patience and the €150m release clause protects them from any immediate threat.

Once the new salary is agreed upon, the new deal until 2026 will be drafted and Milan will also try to increase the €150m clause. Nothing will be done in haste, though, as it would only show desperation from the Rossoneri.

  1. Maybe I misunderstand the situation, but given Leao’s issue w Sporting it seems like Leao will always follow the big money.
He is becoming one of the top players in the world. Forza Milan

    1. Leao’s issues were related to him being attacked by sporting ultras not money. In fact the whole lawsuit and ruling against him is bs. The guy gets attacked at work and the party that’s liable gets rewarded 16 million…
