CorSport: Return, comeback attempt then renewal – Milan smile with Leao

By Oliver Fisher -

There is some double good news regarding Rafael Leao who has agreed to renew his contract with AC Milan and will also soon return, a report claims.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) write this morning, the signing of Leao’s new deal could arrive just after the return leg against Inter in the Champions League next Tuesday with all the details now agreed.

Rafa missed the first leg due to the adductor strain he sustained against Lazio, but Milan hope to be able to get him back for Tuesday’s return game in which the Rossoneri will be called to overturn a two-goal deficit to the Nerazzurri.

The dream scenario would be Leao’s return to the field complete with a comeback and then signing the next day. However, the Portuguese winger will only partially have a say on the first objective and everything will depend on many factors, but there is little in doubt regarding his renewal.

Leao will receive €6.5m net per season, including bonuses, until 2028, while his release clause will be raised to €170m. The real issue that had to be resolved in this long negotiation was the one linked to the dispute between Lille and Sporting CP, and a solution has been found: the Ligue 1 club will pay €20m to the Portuguese side.

Furthermore, Lille will get 15% of the proceeds from a potential future resale which has facilitated the final piece of the jigsaw being put into place.

  1. Someone will trigger Leao’s clause in 2 years, if he continue to develope as a player. Lille should get 25 million at least.

  2. Milan will pay to Lille 18 million €, so thay can pay to Sporting. Lille will pay 2 million in total and Leao 1 million…

  3. Awesome. Now do a straight swap with CFC for Mudryk, Maduke, Loftus-Cheek and Broja, so that Lille gets nothing 😆
