Costacurta believes one game ‘psychologically tarnished’ Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta believes that the draw against Roma is what has damaged Stefano Pioli’s side psychologically.

Milan have won just one of their opening six games to begin the calendar year and they are currently on a run of five matches without a win across all competitions. The victory against Salernitana started things on the right foot, but since then it has been all downhill.

Stefano Pioli’s men led 2-0 with 86 minutes on the board against Roma but threw it away as Ibanez and Abraham scored, leaving two points on the table, and since then a loss against Torino in the cup, a draw against Lecce, a defeat to Inter in the Supercoppa and a hammering against Lazio have followed.

Costacurta spoke to Sky in the aftermath of Milan’s 4-0 defeat against Lazio on Tuesday night, assessing why the team are struggling so much at the moment.

“It’s not clear whether Lazio were extraordinary or Milan who gave up space. The match with Roma psychologically tarnished Pioli’s Rossoneri,” he said (via Calciomercato.com).

“There are some important players who suffered the World Cup and perhaps the market. I’ve never seen him [Pioli] lose his head at Milanello, I imagine that Paolo will try to keep calm this time too.”
