Costacurta full of praise for Milan summer signing: “He’s the smartest”

By Oliver Fisher -

The praise continues to pour in for Tijjani Reijnders after his debut against Bologna on Monday night, with Alessandro Costacurta the latest to highlight the positives.

Reijnders got his first Serie A start at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara during the 2-0 win and we highlighted the role that he played in a new-look midfield that had Rade Krunic at the base and Ruben Loftus-Cheek as the other box-to-box player.

Costacurta spoke during a segment on Sky about the performance from the Dutchman, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

“He’s the smartest one, he helps others to enhance the team. The Dutch I played with had this characteristic, they knew how to play football. What bound them together? Their anticipation. Everyone was at least a little bit ahead,” he said.

It therefore seems that the new Milan midfielder has something in common with his compatriots who moved to Milan in the past, perhaps most notably Frank Rijkaard and Ruud Gullit, as well as Marco van Basten.

Of course the challenge for Reijnders has just begun, but the signs seen in Reggio-Emilia are certainly positive.

  1. He’s a superbly skilled and technical player that would have gone anywhere else for 50+ million. A smart signing indeed. Fact is he is well suited for our midfield and style.

Could be the signing of the summer really if he keeps it up.

    1. Yeh he’s a great signing by the looks of things – while Inter go for the obvious and overspend on Frattesi… don’t care much if Reijnders is Dutch and not Italian as people keep complaining – he’s a steal.

  2. Seedorf is my all time favourite footballer. Of course Reijnders is nowhere near but he does bring back some of that joy to me. Sadly he’ll be sold in 2 years for 70 millions + bonuses.

  3. Rudolf the red nose Reijnder spreading gifts around like it’s Christmas Eve! And to think there were so many on here commenting about him being a no name signing because he had one good season in an irrelevant league… FFS.

This kid is brilliant and a technical upgrade on Sandro. No question about it. So far my favorite player we signed this summer.

    1. i will not sit and call players names even if they are jovially meant but i could see reijnders name fitting on the back of that christmas shirt a few years back with snow on it 😀

  4. Apart from looking like he is making the best fart of his life in the photo above, he looks so calm and unphased when on the field.

  5. Too early praise him now. Still one match . Remember CDK play good on his first match too last season and ppl in this site comparing him with de bruyne & kaka . Lets wait till last season to judge tiji performance

  6. And notice how Maldini’s Heir doesn’t comment under this article. He wouldn’t possibly trash on Reijnders too.

  7. ” Sadly he’ll be sold in 2 years for 70 millions + bonuses.”

Just like Leão this season, right?? 😆🤣😆

Always doom & gloom, doom & gloom all the way, those clowns never learn haha…
