Costacurta says Milan have been lacking a Zirkzee-esque striker ‘for many years’

By Isak Möller -

Joshua Zirkzee got on the scoresheet in the clash between AC Milan and Bologna last night, impressing once again in front of the Rossoneri management. Before the game, the club legend Billy Costacurta also said that he’s exactly what they need.

It was a disappointing draw in the end for Milan, with the game finishing 2-2, especially since they turned things around after Zirkzee’s opening strike. The latter has been heavily linked with the Rossoneri in the last few weeks and a goal was written in the stars.

Speaking to Sky Italia before the game, as cited by MilanNews, the Milan legend Costacurta shared his thoughts on the Rossoneri’s interest in Zirkzee. He stated that the Dutchman is just what they need, or at least a player with a similar profile.

“A centre-forward with the technical numbers of Zirkzee is missing at Milan. Great strikers have arrived but if we are talking about a player who treats the ball like this, Milan haven’t had one for many years,” he stated.

Depending on the future of Stefano Pioli, Milan could perhaps make a move for Zirkzee in the summer. On the other hand, Pioli has also expressed his admiration for the player, so an attempt seems more or less decided already.

  1. I personally did not dee anything special bout him.. Many wontbe praising him for his perfomance and won’t have scored a goal it Milan had Thiaw and Tomori at CD against him.. Gabbi and Kjear are too soft and not proactive like Tomori

    1. You must have not been watching the right game. Zee checked all the right boxes. Kept dancing around our defense.

Remember the last time Giroud went dancing around a defense?

          1. With a shot that was deflected and squirmed through the keepers legs, very fortuitous.
He missed a couple of easy chances.
Hes a good player but he is not a natural finisher.
We have creative players we need a finisher.
He is more suited to a CDK type role, which doesn’t fit our system

  2. Zirkzee is a player for much higher goals than a team like Bologna can offer him. Last night, he was arguably the toughest opponent on the rival team. Fast, powerful and technically excellent player with an incredible overview of the game and moves that are difficult to predict! This type of footballer would find his place in almost every team. I know it’s going to be tough but next season I’d like to see him in our jersey !

  3. I think Zirkzee will be a gamble, yes he is very talented has a very good physique and decent technique also he likes to come down to the midfield and carry the ball and keep passing to the winger or midfielders so he could be a lethal combination together with Leao and Pulisic but from what I say yesterday he is still immature, almost every time he tried to pass 2-3 defenders alone instead of passing the ball

  4. Where is Sofian the fanboy of Giroud? Are you hiding your head in the sand or you are licking Giroud behind now you “perv”

  5. He can be a successfull gamble but I’d honestly rather go for a more prolific goalscorer this summer. I don’t think we need to purchase many players anyways, so might as well invest a lot of money in few good players.

  6. I can’t see why anyone is raving about him ,,he has got little hold up ability,or strength…last night he was beaten so many times whilst he had possession
Zirkzee…not a real centre forward at all .
I have watched him play a few times never impressed me …

    1. Yess he play like leao and soft pressure from his club help him to grow. Play like club milan, you must already have strong mentallity and little error. Do you have ??

  7. Folks that what a 40mil striker gets you 🙂

Maybe when Leao is sold this summer to PSG we can afford Zee along with some other key additions.
