Costacurta praises Leao for Roma performance: “He played with ease”

Rafael Leao is becoming ever-present at the centre of AC Milan games this season, and he is aiding the side in getting big results.

When Massimiliano Allegri was first linked to the Milan job, it seemed like he wanted to build around Leao. Of course, given the Portuguese’s quality, it was understandable and still is. However, with a new role in mind, it would be interesting to see how it played out.

Now, it appears to be a masterstroke, with Leao potentially at his best level in years, if not ever in a Rossoneri shirt. In four Serie A starts, he has three goals and an assist, which have directly contributed to two wins and a draw.

Leao’s ‘ease’ on Sunday

After the Juventus game, many were left a bit puzzled with him and his position, and questions have even been asked since. However, if Leao is to continue as he has in the last four games, it would be difficult to say he is not at the best level of his career.

Speaking after the game to Sky Sport, Billy Costacurta gave a lot of praise, via MilanNews.

“He played with ease in those spaces. He was good, but also unlucky. It’s always worth noting when he does that kind of move: then he pauses, as always, but tonight he was good.”

    1. One of the greatest Italian defenders, not just a defender.
He played with and defended some of the greatest forwards ever.

    2. No brother Leao needs this, it tells him legends are watching him and they believe he can do more, even Modric believes he has all the ability in the world, it’s all about how we take criticism as people, most times it’s not hate

    3. So nice of you, Mr.Keyboard Warrior, to approve a legend’s message. I mean, your words have sooooo much more validity than his. WTF does he know anyway, right?

  1. Billy has been a great defender, he has seen what greatness looks like, and played with some of the best players in history. He also didn’t mince his words with criticizing Leão last season.
So when he praises Leão here, you can be pretty certain that he did a good job.

    1. This is not a “pick a side” type of comment.
You comment on a player’s performance in a game or a group of games or a season. Leão playing well against Roma doesn’t mean he played well against Juventus and him playing badly against Juventus doesn’t mean he didn’t play well against Roma.

    2. LOL. You’re showing exactly what the problem with certain people (mostly fanbois) is!!!

“You need to pick side”. WTF? 😀 😀 😀

How about judging players based on their current form and performances instead of living in the past? Which is EXACTLY what Mr. Costacurta is doing.

  2. Costacurta has double face. Last weekend he was on sky sport destroying Leao with his mouth and here today saying his praises. He’s blowing hot and cold same time like oxymoron.. if Leao didn’t move to the left wing on his own he wouldn’t have played better. Leao strived because he operates from the left wing which he knows better rather than the false striker Allegri is trying to make him be. During Billy’s time in Milan it was Maldini who brushed his mistakes. He praises inter Milan than Milan BUT Leao my boy will always prove the doubters wrong. Forza Milan Forza Leao

    1. Yeah, gen-z fanboy, criticizing a player when he plays badly (as Leao often does) and praising him when he has a good game, is not “double face”, it’s grounded analysis of reality where grownups don’t sit to watch football games in order to scream “forza Leao”. Costacurta is a pundit, not Leao’s manager.

    2. “Costacurta has double face.”

Nope. 100% wrong here. He’s just being consistent. Consistent on judging the players based on their latest performances instead of living in the past like some people. Being an MVP 5 years ago means nothing on the pitch today.

  3. Leao is always a great player
    no one doubted that
the problem is sometimes he’s not 100% focus
in terms of ability he’s beyond Pulisic
but he need to increase his mentality
if he do that, no one can match him in Serie A
