Billy Costacurta has heaped praise on his former teammate Paolo Maldini, who has done a tremendous job as a director at AC Milan. The 56-year-old is not surprised at all by the recent success.
Maldini is obviously a club icon and prior to his return as a director, Milan tried to bring him back quite a few times. The former defender wanted the right assurances, though, and he got them when Elliott Management took over the club.
Speaking to Tuttosport, as cited by SempreMilan.it, Milan legend Billy Costacurta has revealed that he was quite surprised that it took so long for Maldini to get back into the footballing world. He isn’t surprised by the success, though.
“Is Pioli’s or Maldini’s career more surprising? I find neither surprising. I have known Paolo for 40 years, I know who he is and what he could give, I had no doubts that he could be an excellent director. What’s surprising, if anything, is that he has been out of this world for so long,” he stated.
It remains to be seen how far Milan can go in the Champions League this season, taking on Tottenham in the round of 16. It’s clear that making it past that round would be a huge success for the Rossoneri and Maldini.
