Costacurta reacts to Ibrahimovic breaking his record: “I have other numbers to be remembered by”

Alessandro Costacurta has reacted after Zlatan Ibrahimovic broke his record to become the oldest scorer in Serie A history.

Ibrahimovic made his first start for Milan since having knee surgery in the summer and Stefano Pioli also made him the captain, and while it was not a winning return he did get the record he was looking for.

Milan were awarded a spot kick for a handball and though Zlatan’s first penalty was saved by Marco Silvestri, it was retaken after encroachment and he scored the second attempt to become the oldest ever goalscorer in the history of the club but also Serie A too, overtaking Costacurta who also netted at the age of 41.

Costacurta spoke to Sky Italia in reaction to his record being broken by the Swede, with his comments relayed by SempreMilan.it.

“I’m sorry to leave the history of such an important team, but I think I have other numbers to be remembered by. On that occasion it was my last game, so I think that all was overtaken by that emotion there.”
