Cremonese star looking forward to facing boyhood club Milan: “My idol Kaka”

Franco Vazquez is back in Serie A with Cremonese, and in round one of the new season he will face AC Milan, a team he supported growing up.

Fresh from a contract extension with newly promoted Cremonese, where he is a key figure and helped lead them back to Serie A last season, Franco ‘Mudo’ Vazquez will return to Italy’s top flight after ten years.

The veteran Argentine was interviewed this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) and touched on a variety of topics, including his fondness for Milan and his assessment of the new signing Luka Modric.

“Age is just a number, talent is something concrete, so if someone has desire and consistency, the horizon expands a little and experience becomes an added value.

“Modric? I played against him for five years when I was at Sevilla. He’s a player unlike any other; at 40, he’s still crazy about football, you can see it in his eyes. It’ll be a spectacle.”

Is it true you were a Milan fan?

“The Sunday before the barbecue, I had the TV turned to ‘Giostra del Gol’ to watch Serie A and my idol Kaká. I still have his signed shirt, Silvestre gave it to me.

“Am I a Milan fan? Yes, I am a bit. Thanks to that Milan team, which was fantastic. In the league, I made my debut against Milan at San Siro, the most beautiful stadium in Italy. I stayed also to enjoy all this.”

Milan have been repeatedly linked with a move for Vazquez over the years. The first links emerged in 2016 when he was playing at Palermo, and then the stories continued into his time with Sevilla in LaLiga, when he admitted that joining would be a ‘dream’.
