DAZN: Background on the big brawl after the final whistle in Lazio-Milan

By Isak Möller -

After the referee Marco Di Bello blew his whistle for full-time in AC Milan’s clash against Lazio, a big brawl erupted on the pitch and it took a while to separate the players. The DAZN reporter who was on the pitch has now provided more details on the matter.

Tempers were indeed running high as Di Bello dished out eleven yellow cards in total and three red cards to Lazio during the game. After Milan scored the later winner, therefore, the Biancocelesti players couldn’t hold back their frustration.

According to the DAZN correspondent Barbara Cirillo, as cited by Radio Rossonera, the brawl mainly revolved around Malick Thiaw, Valentin Castellanos and Alessio Romagnoli. The latter labelled the game ‘scandalous’ and immediately went over to the Lazio fans, gesturing that it was a scandal before he ended up in the brawl.

It was Castellanos and Thiaw, however, who started the brawl after arguing back and forth. More players then joined in and it went from there. The two captains Davide Calabria and Ciro Immobile both tried to calm things down, but it wasn’t that easy with all of the frustration on the pitch.

Yacine Adli and Luis Alberto were two more players who ended up at the centre of it all, but the situation fortunately calmed down quickly enough.
