MN: De Ketelaere deserves patience but the first forward step must come from him

By Oliver Fisher -

There is no sense in drawing any final and concrete judgements after just three months, but it would be fair to say more was expected from Charles De Ketelaere.

MilanNews write how De Ketelaere was the big signing of Milan’s summer window, arriving for a fee of over €30m from Club Bruge, and even though he has always had the trust of Stefano Pioli  the young attacking midfielder has not yet been able to show everyone the qualities he showed in Belgium.

A period of adaptation to a new club, a new league and a new country is expected, but many hoped the World Cup could help De Ketelaere find some rhythm again. However, he spent 90 minutes on the bench in Belgium’s first game against Canada and then had a disappointing quarter of an hour in the defeat against Morocco, even if the entire team played badly.

In the segment against the Moroccans, the Milan version of De Ketelaere was unfortunately the one seen on the pitch, ta shy, impalpable player struggling to be decisive in a part of the field where he needs to be.

The World Cup showcase could have been (and still is) very useful in finding the real De Ketelaere. On the one hand the 21-year-old is very young and deserves patience, but the first step out of this rut must come from him, so he needs a change of mentality and attitude.

If he will can the right confidence in himself and in his qualities, there is no doubt that he will return to being the talent that drove Milan crazy at Brugge.

    1. Well… Diaz being Diaz and Adli not given any chances… The hunt for a proper #10 continues. CDK is nowhere near the form that role requires so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Pioli taking out the joker from his sleeve: Krunic as #10 again. Which is bad for our goal scoring.

And Milan cannot wait and wait and wait for someone to take that #10 shirt and carry it with dignity and class it deserves. Especially when the RW is the weakest link (or 2nd weakest after the #10) here.
