CM: De Ketelaere makes Milan dream but resisting Chelsea was the best business

By Oliver Fisher -

As the transfer window slams shut for another few months, there is now time to reflect on the business that AC Milan managed to do over the summer.

Calciomercato.com writes that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara did not have the financial strength to close what were probably the primary targets such as Sven Botman and Renato Sanches but they still managed to operate in a very cohesive and effective way to sign alternatives for a team that continue to grow.

Charles De Ketelaere was the big signing and is the one who should add quality to the attack, with Aster Vranckx the man for the midfield who is a bit of a gamble, Malick Thiaw a possible surprise and Sergiño Dest a demonstration that – when needed – Milan can move quickly on the market.

However, the report mentions that the biggest hit of the transfer market was to be able to resist the temptation to sell Rafael Leao to Chelsea. The Blues were ready to offer close to €150m to sign him (close to his release clause) but never obtained an opening from Milan. Now, the mission is his renewal.
