MN: De Ketelaere missing from post-match celebrations – he went straight down the tunnel

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan squad celebrated in front of the Curva Sud at the end of the 4-1 win against Monza but there was a notable absentee as they took in the praise.

The icing on the cake should have been a fifth goal and a first for De Ketelaere when he was found totally unmarked inside the area yet the ball took a bounce that he didn’t read and he ended up slicing at thin air.

MilanNews report that the team gathered as usual in the centre of the field at the end of the game to thank the fans and then went to celebrate in front of the Curva. Everyone was present except De Ketelaere, who left the field with his head bowed as he was obviously disconsolate for the missed chance a few minutes earlier, and he went straight down the tunnel.

His disappointment was evident as he chose not to join in the post-match celebrations with his team, but it could also be an encouraging sign that he has a fire burning inside to contribute more.

  1. Going to have to get a bit mentally stronger than that I’m afraid. Needs to be physically stronger too, he was eased off the ball way too easily many times. Talent is obviously there but on its own that won’t be enough. Ironically, he is playing a bit like Diaz was at the end of last season.

Hopefully, Pioli and team can work their magic with him before next year – at the moment, I’d be surprised if he gets into the Belgium team for the WC so the break may be very useful to him if he gets one.

  2. Not that big of a deal I suppose. We all should remember that he’s just a kid, so this kind of thing is understandable. We should lower (or normalize) our expectation. At least for this season. Comparing him with Kaka by only watching his YouTube clips surely doesn’t help.

  3. He’s young and needs time. But I will say I don’t like how weak he seems mentally and physically. Then again leao seemed very weak mentally and would just fade away in games especially when it got tough during the first 2 years he was here, then he took a big leap and now we have a top talent in him who is now strong in big moments so hopefully cdk will follow the same trajectory.

  4. Sounds like everyone is on the same page here (unlike twitter). Hopefully Zlatan or one of the other older players stays on him to be patient, keep working hard and trust himself. It’s a shame he bumbled that easy goal as I’m convinced it would have done wonders for his confidence. I still see the talent and have faith in Pioli’s ability to bring the best out of his players over time. At this point it seems clear most players take a year or so to fully integrate into Pioli’s tactics.

  5. Oh no that’s not great. He must have been gutted. Gotta keep your head up bud. Milan fans are with you just as we are with Diaz and Adli. Gotta get mentally tough. Hopefully Maldini and Ibra can guide him 😁

  6. It takes time to adapt so he must continue to learn be strong, hope that all the players will help me him, poili has faith in you so the fans, don’t giveup cdk the goal will came divock had score his first goal hope there is more too come, cdk is a wonderful player,be

    1. Patience and you are doing exactly what we hoped as true fans. Paoli has proven the patience and allowing players to develop has worked to our advantage and I am excited to see CDK adjust to Italy and Milan in the years to come. Guy is going to be a beast!

  7. All people here saying “we see his talent” but still he came from an incredibly poor Belgian league, our league is very shit (I’m Belgian). I hoe he does well for us and not falls off mentally

  8. Milan fans we are not manchester united fans or other karen fans we are milan fans we protect our players especially young players in good and bad times it is obvious that cdk is insecure but that is normal he is a milan fan and is now playing with his hero’s for his dreamclub we would maybe be the same if we played for milan. If we keep pressure him obviously it is going to affect him that is why we have to be different than other fans we have to protect him we need to give him some love man that are the things that will grow his confidence

  9. Yeah, the most important thing is helping the team to win. Remember Joao Felix that Atletico Madrid bought for almost 130M € though he hasn’t scored any goal this season, but still very valuable player.

  10. I think he is overvalued. With so much money we spend on him we could have taken Kvaratskhelia that Napoli got and then sell Leao to get a better forward. I think Adli is better than him.
