Sandro Tonali was a key player for AC Milan in the 2-1 win against Salernitana and just like his partner Ismael Bennacer, he has started the season well. The duo, as highlighted by Paolo Di Canio, is perfect for the Rossoneri.
Stefano Pioli’s men did really well against Salernitana and probably should have won the game by 4-5 goals. In the end, however, Tonali was the big hero with a lovely assist for Rafael Leao and a nice goal for himself.
Speaking to Sky Italia, the former Italian footballer Paolo Di Canio shared his thoughts on Milan’s midfield tandem. As is the opinion of almost every Milan fan, he believes that the two players make a perfect couple.
“Tonali and Bennacer have become a perfect tandem. They aren’t very tall but have quick steps. Tonali often runs with the ball and restarts the action. They have great quality and great ability to alternate positions as well,” he said as cited by MilanNews.
Indeed, since the departure of Franck Kessie, both have been forced to step up and also perform at a very high level without as much rest. Thus far, Pioli can be very happy with what the two have achieved.
We miss the physical presence of kessie big time, especially in Europe.

Love Kessie, but he is gone and we still need a player with his characteristics. Especially vulnerable in Europe is Bennacer. He got bullied on both Porto goals last season. Some would say they were fouls, but in Europe, there is more physicality allowed.
Isma brings a lot more skill on the ball than Kessie, but he also gives up a lot of in size. He is good enough for Serie A but in UCL he can be exposed
No we don’t miss Kessie at all and if Kessie still in Milan i doubt we would advanced to the 16 round.
We dont need Cashie or similar to, but more minutes for Pobega and Vranckx. We need more empty sheets in out net, and Pioli to use these to for develop.
Tonali and Bennacer are perfect tandem because both players have the brawns and also have the brains. Unlike Cashie who only have brawn.
And Vranckx also looks good for physical plays.
We don’t need Cashie anymore. He already picked his choice: rotten at Barca bench with big salary.
I personally like 1 true physical presence but honestly it’s not needed. CL finalists were Liverpool and Madrid. Sorry but casemiro, modric, and kroos aren’t physical specimens, nor is Henderson, fabinho, and thiago… all we need to dominate the mid is a 3rd midfielder. Drop the AM idea and get a 3rd starting mid and run 3.

Casemiro is literally taller and heavier than Kessie.
Kroos is the same height and weight as Kessie.
So is Jordan Henderson.
Fabinho is 6.2
So you have 2 technical players like Thiago and Modric, who even though are smaller they are very physical themselves, surrounded by 2 physical players to do the dirty work and provide protection. Just like the Maestro Andrea Pirlo was surrounded by Gattuso/Ambrosini and Seedorf
Both of our midfielders are under 6 feet tall. Bennacer isn’t much bigger than Brahim.
That’s fine for Serie A but in Europe that gets exposed, especially Bennacer.
