Di Marzio: Continuation of Maldini’s plan – background on summer Camarda meeting

By Oliver Fisher -

Francesco Camarda will achieve a dream tomorrow night as he will experience his first matchday with AC Milan’s senior squad, knowing a debut would make him a record breaker.

As Di Marzio’s website GrandHotelCalciomercato.com writes, Camarda will be called up by Stefano Pioli for the match against Fiorentina on Saturday night by virtue of necessity given that Rafael Leao, Olivier Giroud and Noah Okafor are all unavailable.

Camarda is in many ways an old fashioned number nine because he has few touches of the ball during the match but his movement and his finishing mean that when he does get involved it often ends with a goal.

Milan have had strong faith in him since he was a child and at 15 years old – after more than 400 goals in the Rossoneri youth sector – they chose to send him to the Primavera. It seemed like a gamble, but instead he has hit the ground running.

This decision had already been made at the beginning of June, before the change in management. The former technical director Paolo Maldini had invited Camarda, his entourage and his family to the office at Casa Milan to talk about the future of the striker.

In this meeting the former captain had outlined the plan: to promote Camarda immediately to the Primavera and then get him to sign a professional contract as soon as possible, which is at 16 years of age (March 2024).

Now the management is Moncada-D’Ottavio not Maldini-Massara but the vision does not change. Milan are continuing to work to reach an agreement with the family, and while the eyes of top European clubs are on Camarda he has been a Milan fan since he was a child which counts for something.
