Di Marzio: Daniel Maldini closing in on Colombo-esque move to Empoli

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are not just working on potential incoming operations this summer given that the future of several current squad members needs to be resolved.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio on Sky (via MilanNews), Empoli are very close to securing Daniel Maldini’s services on an initial loan deal which will include an option to buy but also a buy-back in Milan’s favour.

It is very similar to the deal that saw Lorenzo Colombo move to Lecce for the 2022-23 season. The striker scored six goals with the Giallorossi and they chose to buy him, but Milan bought him back and Lecce made a development fee of sorts.

Daniel Maldini was on loan at Spezia last season and had a mixed campaign overall. He scored three goals in the end – including one against Milan and one against Inter – but made just 20 appearances as he battled injury issues and mostly came off the bench.

  1. Why can’t they work out a deal for Parisi or Baldanzi that would include Maldini and/or Colombo and instead throw money at PL rejects and benchwarmers.

    1. Those same PL rejects handed us our butts when we faced Chelsea, RLC even put in a man of the match worthy performance after they smashed us 2-0 and 3-0. Don’t be that guy. If you’ve got nothing smart to say don’t say it man

    2. Wonder what you have to say about our other PL reject Tomori, RLC actually has more caps and actually played at a World Cup for England, this is the perfect place for him to reboot after his injury troubles at the end of the 2010’s, and he’s stayed fit, more than 100 appearances in the past 3 seasons, which is about the same output we’ve gotten for Bennacer, bet you didn’t know the player they label injury prone in Pulisic has actually played more matches than Bennacer these past 3 seasons. So sit down and go support someone else, we’re tired of listening to you cry like a baby.

      1. Don’t give me that, he didn’t have more match than Bennacer, you go write or read this nonsense on reddit. People gave you numbers there already.

Tomori was never a reject, Chelsea fans were fuming when we took him. Same as we are now cause of Tonali’s sale.

Until they prove otherwise they are PL overpayed scrap. If you don’t like my opinion, scroll further triggered snowflake

        1. Last 3 season for Chelsea RLC played in 106 games for total of 6155 minutes.
Last 3 seasons for Milan Bennacer played in 110 games for total of 6742 minutes.
It’s about the same output as @Bo said especially when you take into consideration the competition for minutes in the Chelsea midfield over the last 3 years with Milan’s midfield

        2. PL is faster paced and more physical of a league then Serie A. The physical adaptation of the players moving to Italy is more straight-forward than the other way around. Hence Tomori, Lukaku, Tammy playing and looking better in Italy than in England. Overpaid Scrap or not.

    3. Empoli want 20m euro for baldanzi . Daniel maldini just back up for empoli. For parisi must wait till ACM sell ballotoure first , you cannot just buy parisi & later ballo toure reject all offer and choose to stay

    4. Sadly Italian football is in a freefall and has been for quite some time. Youth sector especially. There is just not enough investment in player development. Because of that those PL rejects can run run rings round most of what Italy has or can produce.

It’s heartbreaking to see once greatest league that produced hordes of world calls players wolloing in the mud, while senile old man that are supposed to be leading, are drooling and pissing themselves. Sadly, the only way for Italian football to move forward is for those in charge to die out and pray that someone more competent than corrupt replaces them.

  2. I think we should keep Maldini as a back up to Leao, especially if we sell Rebic.

It’s also nice to have a Maldini playing for us, especially after how we treated his Dad, although whether he now wants to stay is another matter.

  3. Honestly, I am surprised they have sold Maldini elsewhere just on principle and are choosing to loan him out.
