Di Marzio: Friday is Leao day – the details of his new salary and higher clause

By Oliver Fisher -

A nice boost for AC Milan fans should arrive just before the weekend as Rafael Leao is expected to sign his contract renewal, it is claimed.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, a full agreement has been reached with Leao over his contract extension. After the victory against Sampdoria and the two rest days granted by Stefano Pioli, Milan’s new agenda has scheduled the signing and announcement of the new deal for Friday 26 May.

The player’s will has always been clear and ultimately decisive, as Leao wanted to stay at Milan which formed the basis of a negotiation that had its difficulties with regards to the salary, length, release clause and of course the infamous fine owed to Sporting CP.

Leao will sign a new agreement until June 2028 meaning it is a five-year deal for the former Lille star, whose salary will be increased to €5m net per season plus bonuses. His release clause will also go up, from the previous €150m to €175m.

  1. If this does come off, and di Marzio is usually a credible source, then huge props to the club for managing it.

There is almost no reason at this point for the player to sign now instead of waiting a year and seeing what offers he can get on an open market – so I’m still a bit cynical about the news until I see a photo of a signed contract – so if it is confirmed then great news all around

    1. Don’t let Poli see your comment. It would mean Maldini has once more renewed a player. You’re going to ruin his perfect world

      1. It is Furlani that make things easy to extend leao contract. He negotiate with lille, make lile pay leao fine to sporting

      2. Hahahahahahahaha!! @Pioli will have a heart attack! And where is that other dude @bb?? The one who said to sell Leao for 40M and bashed him constantly saying he wasn’t worth 7M??? Well we got him for 5M and increased his release clause? If true this is masterful deal done by M&M and huge props to Leao for keeping his word and settling for less $ just to stay at Milan for a few more seasons. Apologies are welcome @bb and @20&8 (who is @bb in disguise) lol
