Di Marzio gives update on Leao’s future amid Saudi doubts: “Milan would evaluate”

Gianluca Di Marzio believes AC Milan are open to selling Rafael Leao, but so far no serious offers have arrive to tempt them.

Perhaps the lowest ebb in Leao’s season if not his Milan career so far came on Saturday evening, when he was jeered off the field during the 3-0 defeat to Udinese. It has been a troubled campaign for the Portuguese, for various different reasons.

Firstly, Massimiliano Allegri has made him try and adapt to playing as a striker in a two-man attack. Secondly, he has battled various physical issues, the most recent being pubalgia. Thirdly, he has barely started with the man Allegri wanted to pair him with, which is Christian Pulisic.

Rumours have been rampant since the weekend about Leao potentially being sold before 2026-27. La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that the club will listen to offers, with Manchester United the ones to watch out for at the moment.

‘Milan would evaluate it’

Di Marzio spoke live on Sky last night about the future of Leao, and he gave the information that he has regarding the former Lille star and the possibility that it could be his last season at the club.

“Up until now, no offers have ever arrived that would make Milan falter. If an offer were to ever arrive, Milan would evaluate it, it’s clear that it would have to be a significant proposal,” he said.

“Milan aren’t selling Leao off tomorrow morning just because he was jeered at on Saturday. For now, however, nothing has arrived in Via Aldo Rossi [the club headquarters]. Leao is definitely not unsellable.

“If you ask me, ‘Is Leao unsellable?’ ‘Is he a player who, even if an offer were to arrive, Milan would say no because we want to start over with Leao?’ No, I don’t think so, but at the same time, it’s also too early to think about a truly serious offer for Leao while we wait to see how the various strikers will move at international level.

“Well, I can say that I don’t think, for example, that Arab proposals could tempt the player. I don’t see Leao today ready to accept, I don’t know, an offer from Al-Hilal, who would perhaps be willing to offer Milan €80-100m.

“But will Leao go there? I have my doubts that Leao would decide to go to that kind of league today. If he were to decide to go there, then something might happen.”
