Di Marzio says Leao is ‘similar’ to Lautaro amid obvious desire to stay at Milan

By Ben Dixon -

Ahead of the summer mercato, AC Milan are aware that several of their stars will be enquired about, and Rafael Leao will be subject to enquiries. The Portuguese winger is one of the best in the world in his position, and as a result, many clubs are interested in taking him from Milano.

While this has not been Leao’s best season for Milan, he has still shown his class several times and has matured into one of the squad’s leaders. At 24, he will only progress further, which makes his price an opportunity for some clubs to take note.

Paris Saint-Germain have been heavily linked with holding interest in the winger, as have Manchester City and Chelsea. However, in a recent interview, Leao diffused some rumours, stating that his ‘heart was in Milan and that the Rossoneri is his home’.

Di Marzio spoke to Sky Sports about the similarities between Leao’s situation at Milan and Martinez’s at Inter, and his words have been relayed by MilanNews.

Contract situations and the similarities between Leao and Lautaro…

“The difference between the three [Theo Hernandez, Mike Maignan and Rafael Leao] is the contract expiry date, because Leao has a long expiry date, as he has just renewed, while the renewals of Theo and Maignan will be issues to be addressed. Leao shows on the pitch and in words that he is fine at Milan. It’s a bit like Lautaro’s situation at Inter: they are really well and don’t let it be known that they want to go elsewhere.”

There can be several comparisons between the two players – without a doubt, they are both the stars of their team. Therefore, there will always be a level of interest in them, as would be expected with two world-class players. However, the comparisons also stretch to how they act about their business, ensuring that they remain respectful to the club and the fans, which is appreciated.

  1. Good for u Rafaell, now who will we sell to raise fund buying world class striker? Or will we stick to Lukaku, Mitrovic, Icardi, or Morata’s as* 😀

    1. ACM dont need to sell key player to get striker up to 40m euro like zirkzee. More than 40m euro then just skip that striker example : gyokeres, gimenez. ACM will get fund from the sale junior messias, saladmaker,CDK,Origi,Ballo toure
