Di Marzio: Milan make their first offer for Club Brugge’s De Ketelaere

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan have made their first official offer for Club Brugge midfielder Charles De Ketelaere this summer, a report claims.

As has been reported by Gianluca Di Marzio on his website, the Rossoneri have finally made an official approach for the Belgian youngster who they have been linked with for many weeks.

The bid made by Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara was €20 million as well as some bonuses but it is assumed that it will not be accepted by the Belgian champions.

They are holding out for a much higher fee in the region of €35 million. Given there is competition for the player from Premier League side Leeds United, Club Brugge likely hope that the price will be driven up by a bidding war.

De Ketelaere would likely operate in the attacking midfield role behind the main striker at Milan but he is capable of playing almost anywhere across the front four.

  1. Good news! It should also be noted that Pioli has called the player (according to Vitiello), which suggest that this is a player we really want. But it remains to be seen whether or not we will have the financial will and strength to fight off PL competition. That is the big question.

Btw. at Brugge he almost always played as a central striker/false nine, not as CAM. But obviously he has characteristics that might make him suitable to play CAM/RW as well.

  2. That’s my only concern. He’s young, tall, reasonably quick, seems to have a wand of left foot but….

Hes hardly ever played as CAM, yet ppl keep referring to him as a natural no.10

What am I missing here? If his real position is AMC how come for brugge (and even 🇧🇪 national side) he doesn’t play there.

  3. He is still young, you can train him into AMF position behind striker. Flexibility are important for all player in modern era. If you can only play on one position then you dont have versatility and hard to compete with other player example suso can only play RW ,see what happen to him?

  4. I agree. If you read the long interview with Moncadas analyst published here on sempremilan a short while ago, one of the most interesting points he made was that the notion of “position” is somewhat overrated in modern football. What managers today are more interested in is the tasks that a player can execute. In this perspective I can understand why CdK may also be considered fitting also for a CAM-role: his attributes suggests that he can execute the tasks that needs executing by a CAM in Milans tactical set-up.

  5. I think this guy fits the mold so perfectly he can be the link up man from midfield as his main asset is how well he finds pockets to receive freely. He Can receive real high up centrally and drop and can play also against the line. At Milan he would surely be use where his full potential.
Plus hes got a kaka look
