Di Marzio: Milan closing in on agreement over major midfield target after latest talks

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have taken steps forward in negotiations with AZ Alkmaar over the signing of Tijjani Reijnders and could close soon, a report claims.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan are moving ‘ever closer to a significant signing for the midfield because the negotiations with AZ Alkmaar for Reijnders are proceeding quickly.

The parties are moving closer together in terms of offer and demand, and the operation could be closed at the beginning of next week.

Milan begin their preseason preparations on Monday and they leave for the United States around 10 days later for a tour, so getting the Dutchman in before then must be the aim.

While the negotiation for Reijnders is moving closer, Christian Pulisic to Milan has already been completed. The Rossoneri will pay around €20m plus bonuses to sign the Chelsea forward.

However, his arrival in Italy might not happen before the next week. The program has yet to be established and the bureaucratic times could take a while.

    1. The smarter move wouldve been Musah. He’s more the physical presence that the midfield needs and he is only 20 and has a bigger upside. Unless Milan are signing both of them, Musah is the better option.

    2. Yeah they are clueless with what the highest level of competition in Europe implies, but they know exactly what they want. Sustainability. Which is semantics for “we don’t inject money but we’ll grow and resell for high profits”. I didn’t want smart moves that fit the moneyball philosophy, involving unknown players that didn’t prove anything yet on a big stage. I did want sure players, like Tonali, Milinkovic-Savic, Berardi.

The smart moves already happened years ago with Leao, Théo, etc. We needed some veterans and key players to surround them. Now here we go again trying to find gems to develop them, which could take years if we refer to Leao, Théo, etc. History repeats itself.

      1. Loftus Cheek is 27 years old
        Pulisic is 25
        Reijnders is 25
        Chukwueze is 24
Players who are coming from Chelsea, Villarreal, AZ Alkmaar.
wiith Champions league, Europe league, national teams experience.
What development? They are entering the prime years of their career. There is no comparison with Theo and Leao. They were 20, 21 when Milan signed them without any of the experience of the players we are after or signed already

        1. That’s exactly my point when I say “players that didn’t prove anything yet on a big stage”. Ruben and Pulisic were depth players at Chelsea and they will have to adapt to Serie A, hopefully asap. Reijnders, Chukwueze or Musah still have to prove themselves against the best oppositions of Serie A and in the Champions League.

Sorry I’m still disappointed that we were so close to a dominant team and now it’s Vegas baby they are gambling a lot on unproven players.

          1. If Pulisic plays half as good as he played for Chelsea previous seasons he’s a big upgrade over Brahim Diaz . Remember Serie A is not as hard the Prem . Alot of player’s that weren’t performing in the prem are doing very good in Serie A.

          2. Football in this time are different compared berlusconi prime time , in berlusconi time there is no FFP and you are free to inject owner money to club. In that time italian football dominating europe because EPL dont have big money tv revenue & sponsor. But thats only past , now income EPL club have very huge difference with italian club. To compete with EPL club or other rich club like Bayern muenchen,Real Madrid you need big money too. Accept the reality italian club cannot spend more than 50m euro cash unless they sell their expensive player, not even juve that have stadium they already sell kulu 30m euro & put dusan / chiesa in market list . IM already sell brozo & almost deal sell onana to MU 55m euro. Roma & lazio ? Both of them only target low cost deal or free transfer deal ,Lazio salary cap for new player are 2m euro nett/years ( worst than ACM that 4m euro nett for new player / season ) . Increase AC Milan income are the only way for compete with rich club

          3. Reinjders and Chukwueze are miles better than anything we have, especially Chukwueze. For years people have complained about our situation in RW. Now that we are linked with a RW, people still complain about him? These aren’t unproven players and you frankly have no idea what you’re talking about. Musah is the youngest one we’re linked with and has a bit more of a way to go with development.

It’s unbelievable how Milan fans are never happy about anything. We’re finally linked to a great RW, and still manage to complain about it all.

        2. Yep – and now it’s coming out Newcastle approached Tonali first and he said yes so this whole “stupid Americans are destroying the soul of this club” makes even less sense.

        1. This is absolutely not an argument, just trying your best to be condescending and sarcastic. Anyway we went to a scudetto and UCL semis with no resources when Maldini and Massara were at the helm, let’s see where we go with this management.

          1. This new management has made several moves of players that are more a certain thing. Players that have played at the highest levels. So I’m not even sure what you’re complaining about. No, I’m not happy about Tonali leaving, but that was the choice of the player.

    1. Reijnders has been class for years in the Eredivisie and far from a one season wonder. It just took a while for people to notice him. Now he is with the Dutch National team as well, so I think he is there to stay at the top level
