Di Marzio: A difference to settle – Milan must close the gap with Salzburg over defender

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan’s pursuit of Strahinja Pavlovic has intensified quickly, and they are now approaching the final stages of a deal. However, a report has suggested that there is a gap to close for the Rossoneri before anything can be done.

The hunt for a central defender has been unique in the sense that several names have been linked to the role – most notably, Alessandro Buongiorno, Lillian Brassier and Jakub Kiwior – but there has not been a defined primary candidate.

At least, not until now.

In the past fortnight, the tracks to Pavlovic have heated up massively, and in the past few days, an agreement has looked increasingly likely. Therefore, when it was reported today that a deal between the club and the player had been drafted, it did not come as a shock.

However, just because a deal has been drafted between these two parties does not mean a deal is done, and Gianluca Di Marzio has given an update on the all-important negotiation.

As the Journalist reports on his X account, there is no agreement between AC Milan and RB Salzburg, and there is currently a distance in their offers. The Rossoneri are looking at a fee of €20 million, whereas the Austrian club are looking for €30m.

Whilst it is not a huge gap, it is one that must be closed, especially given there have been suggestions that the Diavolo are not the leaders for his signature.

  1. Abandoning the Zirkzee deal leaves more money to spend on other areas. I see Milan getting this one. If they add Morata, Fofana and Fulkrug, that would be something. Zirkzee was a surprise for the No.9 position, and though we didn’t sign him, as long as we can get other decent players, that would be a good mercato for the club. It’s up to Fonseca to bring out the best in the players. Milan will not pushovers next season with these players.

    1. Lol. Chelsea and Newcastle are in for him and will have no problem paying 30m. Therr is also Leipzig, who always have a leg up with their little sibling club. Finally, his contract is to 2027. Why in the world would they discount to “22m+bonuses” for us?

    2. bologna bought zirkzee for 7mil if I remember correctly, and sold him 45mil+agent fee.. so a 30mil is a good negotiable price for salzburg

  2. 30 mil is not that bad, maybe they will drop the price to 25-27mil add some bonuses and get it done. The hesitation on this management is mind blowing. They try to bargain on every player making low bids and end up losing the players, how it went it Weiffer? They offered 20 mil refused to increase the offer and he went to brighton for 30 mil

  3. Make a deal with Newcastle. Let them have Thiaw for 25-30 and get this guy for 27-8 in cash or 30 (varies of bonuses or installments included) . Everyone happy
