‘Without Gimenez’ – Di Marzio states Milan are trying to make new move for Dovbyk

AC Milan could end the summer with three ‘traditional’ forward options this summer, thanks to a new idea.

It has already been reported that Milan like Artem Dovbyk; that interest was present a year ago, and now it remains. With Massimiliano Allegri present, it probably is a little stronger. After all, the Italian wants a physical striker.

So, with AS Roma considering an exit, they have been present. However, the structure of a potential deal was a little odd. Rather than keeping faith in the striker they paid €30 million for in January, the idea would have been to get rid.

Ideal situation

Igli Tare, last night, said that this was the only way he could arrive, but Allegri spoke highly of him after the game. So, it seems that he may be ok keeping the Mexican, but the desire for another remains.

Today, Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that a new idea could open and be tried, as MilanNews relays.

“The Rossoneri are considering acquiring the Roma striker without involving Santiago Gimenez in the deal, who has already made it clear he doesn’t want to leave AC Milan. It’s not a simple negotiation, but a move isn’t out of the question, given Dovbyk’s own openness to the move.”

  1. Is Dovbyk a significant improvement over Gimenez? I haven’t seen much of Dovbyk to make a credible call, but if he isn’t going to be a huge upgrade, why do the deal?

    1. he is effectively a taller and slightly better with his back to goal sort of striker. He scored goals for Roma but he disappears in games like Santiago, but both teams have a problem with feeding the ball to these strikers in ways that they can score more often.

      1. Seems Gimenez’s days are numbered. His performances have been awful, he rarely looks dangerous and seems to struggle with ball control and dangerous runs into the box are completely absent. It does not appear Milan are happy with what they are seeing from him.

    2. He´s a huge upgrade because of the way Allegri wants to play. In Allegris system he needs a physical forward that can keep up the ball with his back to the goal. Gimenez can´t do that. In the game against Cremonese the 2nd goal was caused by this as Gimenez lost a ball he should have controlled and kept for the rest of the team to make the turnover. Gimenez is probably good in a system which plays constantly high up the field with small spaces and fast touches, but Allegri plays a different game. Having both Gimenez and Dovbyk would still be great because not all the games are the same, but Dovbyk would still play a lot more than Gimenez. However we have to consider how injury prone all these players are (including Dovbyk) so perhaps it isn´t bad to have a wider selection available. My guess is we´ll be without 3 starters almost every game so we need quality back-ups.

  2. 12 goals in 32 games for Roma last season, first half of the season they were very poor tho. 24 goals in 36 games the previous season in la liga. Santi Gimenez scored 26 goals in 40 games in the 2023-2024 for Feyenoord. However La Liga is more comparable to Serie A than Eredivisie. Would probably be an upgrade but i’m not sure how significant.

    1. Exactly, Tare said they won’t sign another st with Gimenez because we are not in Europe. Which makes sense, we wave 3 possibly 4 with Nkunku fighting for 2 spots.

  3. GIMÉNEZ 2 GOLES (ANULADOS CLARO PERO GOLES) MÁS LA ASISTENCIAS A PULISIC POR COPPA sin mencionar los 6 goles(la otra temporada) con lesión encima más equipo mediocre

  4. this rumor make me believe that Tare meant Jimenez and didn’t make himself clear well enough… if the Spaniard leaves we get the funds to go for new targets…

    Leao(Nkunku) – Dovbyk(Gimenez)

    Jashari – Ricci – Pulisic
    (Rabiot – Fofana – Modric/RLC)

or if we gonna continue 3-4-2-1:

    Dovbyk(Gimenez)
    Leao(Nkunku) – Pulisic(RLC)
    Jashari(Rabiot) – Ricci(Modric/Fofana)

all in all, great upgrades in attack and defense!

      1. They have the options to get rid of Musah, chuck, Jiménez which won’t happen again. With just 2 domestic tournaments, it’s a win win. Take the money and get a defender and striker. Squad complete

          1. you can’t get rid of both Musah and Jimenez… I can’t believe that I’m saying this but RM Musah seemed decent last night

Jimenez is bound to leave, as per reports he never hit it off with Allegri. which is a shame, since like Alexis he can operate on both flanks and wing-back role suits the Spanish kid

  5. In a two strimer system they can complement eachother if we need go come from behind or finish a gamr to get an extra goal. His hold up play can open space for mids and Santi. Santi is decent with his distribution.

    1. From your mouth to god’s ears. I cannot stand this messy 352. We don’t have players for it and they’re about to sell the ones who could eventually play in it (Jimenez, Musah)

  6. I think Milan should just bring in a CB and a striker and keep everyone else. That gives Allegri more flexibility to switch formations, even during a game. If Rabiot can be done, I’d be more than ok with that too.
