Di Marzio: Milan held advanced talks over Richarlison in 2017 – why it broke down

Richarlison is one of the big stars at the World Cup, bagging a brace in Brazil’s opening clash, and this prompted Gianluca Di Marzio to reveal an interesting story. In fact, the winger was once close to AC Milan.

Richarlison began his career overseas at Watford and moved to Everton just one year later, quickly becoming an important player for the Toffees. 43 goals in 135 appearances earned him a whopping €58m move to Tottenham in the summer.

Before all of this, however, he could have ended up at Milan. This was revealed by Gianluca Di Marzio, stating that the Rossoneri held advanced talks with Fluminense back in 2017. The starting price was €15m and they seemed keen.

However, nothing materialised as Milan didn’t have a non-EU slot available, effectively stopping them from making a concrete attempt. A few weeks later, Watford swooped in with a €12m offer and the Brazilian club said yes. The rest is history, as they say.
