Di Marzio: Milan’s stance on defender and striker signings in January window outlined

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are prioritising the signing of a defender during the January window and will only go for a striker if an opportunity arises.

According to what Gianluca Di Marzio has told Sky Italia (via MilanNews), Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara head into the transfer market looking for a defender, and Mohamed Simakan of Strasbourg is the priority.

MilanNews reported how at the end of Friday’s training Ibrahimovic felt pain in his left calf. The MRI revealed hemorrhagic suffusion in his soleus muscle, with a test to be carried out in 10 days at the earliest, so for the Swede 2020 is over.

The idea of signing a striker who could play as a deputy to Ibrahimovic has long been floated, and given his latest setback it seems the situation has intensified.

Di Marzio adds that if an opportunity should arise, Milan will evaluate it, but priorities have not changed since Ibrahimovic’s injury. In the head of the management, the deputies to Ibra are still Leao and Rebic who, however, have to perform.
