Di Marzio: No favourite to replace Fonseca as Milan only have a list to ‘be ready’

Paulo Fonseca has been at the centre of attention in the last few days, following the 1-3 defeat against Liverpool, and the big litmus test is scheduled for tonight as AC Milan will take on Inter. However, there is currently no favourite to replace him.

The defeat earlier this week was the final straw for many, but sacking the manager ahead of the derby would have been a very poor decision. In any case, Fonseca is on his last life and will need to show something tonight, and even just a win might not be enough.

Speaking to Sky Italia after Fonseca’s press conference last night, as cited by MilanNews, Gianluca Di Marzio shared the latest on the situation. He highlighted the fact that Milan don’t have a favourite in mind to replace the manager, simply having a list to be ready.

“Fonseca seemed worried at the end of the match against Liverpool. Today I saw him charged up. But in the event of a heavy defeat, he could be sacked. There are no names ahead of the others: there is a list because a big club like Milan must be ready for all scenarios. Among the various hypotheses, there are Sarri, Tuchel, Tudor and in the background also Allegri,” he stated.

It remains to be seen what will happen tonight, but the Milan management will certainly be keeping their eyes open for improvements. Equally, not just Fonseca but also the players must show that they really want to win tonight.

  1. No favorite to replace Fonseca YET???

    Let’s see. We have:

    disorganized tactical set up
    Absent sporting director
    No clear project
Mis-mash of players thrown together in wrong positions
    Terrible start to season
    Humiliated in first UCL game
Mediocre Transfer market and poor management decisions on players like Kalulu
    Star players seem despondent
Chaotic defensive scheme leaking goals left and right

AND – we don’t know who we will replace Fonseca with YET???

Take your time “BOSS” – no need to rush apparently 🤮🤮🤮🤮

    1. And that’s after they had a YEAR to figure out a plan of action to replace Pioli… Embarrassing, really.

I thank them for the strong financial footing they have put this club on and the ling term growth they plan on.

But this season there have been some questionable calls. And I blame them for 3 specific failures:

      1. Fonseca
      2. No Sporting Director
      3. Emerson Royale

  2. Sarri has been flirting with Milan for a long time now. Time to bring Sarriball to the San Siro. Honestly he is our best bet to take this team forward

  3. No one is mentioning the possibility of them NOT replacing Fonseca and giving him the WHOLE season to turn things around. Because if they do, they would admit complete incompetence and Ibra’s ego can’t handle that.

    1. I can see that happening esp if we somehow manage to win or even tie this derby. Saves them $$$$ not firing and replacing him – and that, in addition to all the egos you mentioned – is reason enough for these penny pinchers to keep him around

  4. If Redbird Capital are so trigger happy just fire the guy, after all Tottenham fired Mourinho before a cup final.

The coach for me should be given chance just like Pioli.

We questioned and deliberated at length about what we’re then rumours Fonseca appointment.

Now they want to fire him so soon when they were hellbent to get him at all cost, even though there were other coaches available.

There is a lot of craziness in that hierarchy.
