CM: Donnarumma falters as ‘perfect’ Maignan soars – Milan look to the future with no regrets

By Oliver Fisher -

One of the protagonists of a season that sees AC Milan fighting for trophies on two fronts has been summer signing Mike Maignan, who is now an absolute certainty between the posts.

Calciomercato.com recall that Milan have not conceded a goal in six league games now and it becomes seven in all competitions when factoring in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg, something that could yet be valuable given the fact Inter did not get an away goal.

Milan will face the Nerazzurri relying on Maignan’s gloves again and he certainly has the faith of head coach Stefano Pioli, who sung his praises after Friday’s win over Genoa: “He is perfect, he has an incredible presence in the match. He always helps the team and must continue to help them and be competitive until the end.”

Magic Mike arrived in Italy last summer as the man chosen by Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma who eventually moved to PSG on a free transfer after a long and drawn out saga and also after winning the European Championships.

It was an important loss for the club, but what has happened since could not have gone better. Gigio is struggling in Paris having found himself in a battle with Keylor Navas and having made a few too many blunders, including ones against Real Madrid and most recently in Le Clasique against Marseille at the weekend.

Italy also will not be at the World Cup after their humiliating play-off elimination by North Macedonia after a 25-yard shot beat Donnarumma, while Maignan competes to be France’s No.1 in Qatar. Milan looks to the present and the future, with no regrets.

  1. I know we shouldnt talk about him anymore, i mean come on, donna who?
But back thn I seriously didnt catch his logic at all, he’s young, one of the highest paid player in the team, the fans darling, the team create a good environment for him to grow, and each and every damn guy who swore he’s a milanisti or even remotely related to Milan will defend him to death. He left all that for what? Money? If he stays, he will get better and earn more money.
On the other side he have this world class goalkeeper he need to beat first for game time, thus hindering growth, thus less money.. it baffles me

  2. He should sue his agent. After all Raiola acted in his own interest and not his client,s interest. I believe another player has already sued his agent for this reason and won the case.
