Donnarumma names Milan among Scudetto contenders and praises Pioli

By Oliver Fisher -

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma named his former club AC Milan as being among the contenders for the Scudetto this season.

Donnarumma spoke during an interview with DAZN about a number of different topics ranging from the national team and the farewell of Roberto Mancini to a potential return to Italy, with his comments relayed by Calciomercato.com.

“Nobody expected Mancini’s farewell. I spoke to him, we talked, I thanked him because we made history. Unfortunately there was no qualification for the World Cup, but we made history by winning the European Championship. I never met Spalletti, but after what he did in Naples he can do super well and do great things,” he said.

The Milan Primavera graduate was asked if he still remains a follower of Serie A given his attachment to the league, and what his thoughts are regarding the coming season.

“I’ve seen Inter, I always follow. I think it’s a great league, they’re all excellent teams. Milan have built a great team by changing many players who have already settled in well, Pioli works very well.

“We know how strong Inter are, Napoli won the Scudetto, many can plfighty for it until the end, but I think it will be a three-way battle between Napoli and the Milanese clubs.”

When pressed for a team who will end up winning the Scudetto, Donnarumma remained diplomatic by stating it will be a three-horse race.

“I think there are a few teams that can fight until the end. Inter, Napoli, Milan, it will be a very competitive Serie A and we will have fun.”

He was questioned on the Capocannoniere race too, with Lautaro Martinez, Victor Osimhen and Olivier Giroud put forward given they are the three top scorers in the league at present.

“I know Lautaro well because he scored a few goals against me! Osimhen is a force of nature but I don’t know him, I think he can have a say in the top scorer.”

Finally, Donnarumma was asked if he misses playing in Italy and if he still manages to come back to his home country from time to time.

“In the beginning it was normal that I missed it a little. Playing in Italy is different, you’re at home and everything is different.

“Now I’m very well, I’m used to it, I still don’t miss it but Italy is missing in everything and it’s normal. Once a month I come back and I’m very well.”

  1. Who really cars about Dumbaruma, we have way better keeper so habe fun at P$G while you can, and watch your back. But the. Again you had your chance and made the decission

  2. First of all I don’t know what a “plfighty” is but I’m sure the comments are going to be plfighty about a Donnarumma article.
Second it’s ironic to see him be surprised by the action of someone’s decision to leave lol. Ya think bro.

  3. “I’ve seen Inter, I always follow.”
the future serpent of madonnina has spoken, funny that he hasnt already chosen a big payday in saudi arabia.

  4. Quick one. All biases and peeves aside (which I understand is a bit difficult….lol).
But between Mike and Dona, who’s the better GK in your opinion.

    1. Aside of joking or bitterness, I think it is kind of widely accepted that Mike is overall better. Especially in modern football, Mike is considered superior to Donna, most of the top team would clearly prefer him. I can image though that for certain “second to best teams” (mainly defensive) which try to compete with top level, Donna would be a good option.
Finally, Donna’s value has dropped which – considering his age – is a negative indicator.

    2. Mike by lengths as he is far more technically skilled than the italian. I was furious when donnarumma left us but truth be told it didnt last too long and i for one wouldnt even want donnarumma back as we propably currently have the best goal keeper in the world.

        1. all of them 😛

Not in any speciffic order but obviously donnarumma is a great keeper even though he isnt as technically gifted as maignan, theres allison and i would also say that onana is starting to be up in the upper echelons of the best keepers. Im propably forgetting a bunch but as i see it maignan is currently the best keeper in the world but im sure others would say otherwise but at the very minimum at top 3 in the world currently.

        2. Maignan is the most valuable GK on the planet, that should say it all, he’s worth more than Alison, Ederson and everyone else out there. France’s No1 and has the most impressive stats out of all GK’s in the past 5 seasons, not to mention the man almost broke Buffon’s Serie A record while not even playing an entire season. That should tell you everything you need to know about SuperMike

  5. Keep your dirty mouth shut, after all we give you here you come talking bla bla bla why don’t you come to inter this season
