Donnarumma opens up on emotions after hostile Milan reception: “It wasn’t easy”

By Oliver Fisher -

Gianluigi Donnarumma has admitted that it has not been easy the two times he has returned to San Siro because of the hostile reception he has received from fans.

Donnarumma’s exit in the summer of 2021 left a bitter taste in the mouths of many as he departed the club where he came through to academy to join Paris Saint-Germain and on a free transfer too, meaning Milan got nothing.

He returned to San Siro last week as the Rossoneri beat PSG 2-1 in the Champions League. He was jeered loudly when his name was read, insults and chants were aimed at him while fake money with his face rained down from the stands.

Donnarumma spoke during the awards ceremony of the ‘Italian Football Hall of Fame’ on Rai 2 and he spoke about how it felt to meet the Milan fans again, with his comments relayed by Calciomercato.com.

“It wasn’t easy in October 2021 and it hasn’t been easy now. On the pitch you try not to get distracted by anything, to give everything you have for the team but you certainly feel the effects after the match, you release your emotions. On the pitch however, I have grown a lot on this aspect,” he said.

  1. I know we like to trash Dollaruma but man was he world class vs Reims. Unlike us who struggled against Lecce to complement our victory against PSG, PSG were rampant against their next opponents. MBappe was on fire. And Donnarumma kept the opponents at bay with incredible save after save. What an absolute stellar performance…… meanwhile we had to rely on VAR to reduce points after being 2 up smh 🤦‍♂️
