Dragusin’s agent reveals what he told Moncada before big-money Spurs move

By Oliver Fisher -

The agent of Radu Dragusin has confirmed that AC Milan made a late attempt to try and sign the defender but by that point it was too late.

Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed that the Rossoneri were trying to sign Dragusin last week and that an offer of Colombo plus €20m could be enough to satisfy Genoa after contacts were held with the player’s entourage.

In the end, Tottenham were the ones who won the race for Dragusin, signing him in a €31m deal from Genoa after the Romania international chose them over Bayern Munich, according to Sky. The deal is worth an initial €25m plus €6m in add-ons.

Dragusin’s agent Florin Manea gave an interview with TMW in which he revealed some of the background regarding the clubs who wanted his client, confirming Milan were among them.

Could he have stayed in Serie A?

“Napoli were there from the start in a very concrete way, I spoke many times with De Laurentiis. Milan also wanted it. But the boy preferred to go abroad also because of his bond with the Genoa fans,” he began.

When did the possibility of going to Tottenham arise?

“We had been talking for two months.”

Has there been other interest in Italy?

“Napoli was the most concrete club. But Radu didn’t want to go to another Italian team, he didn’t even want to leave Genoa halfway through the season… he thought more about the rossoblu fans than about his career.

“While Milan made an enquiry, I spoke to Moncada but told him that we had already chosen Tottenham. We are happy with the choice, Radu keeps it when he gives his word. Always.”

  1. Shame. Really good scoop for Spurs. They’ve been raiding Serie A for some time now, which is a good strategy for them. Dragusin, Vicario, Udogie, Bentancur, Kulusevski. All really good deals for reasonable money. They only overpaid for Romero.

  2. The EPL has to use Serie A to make its league better. But it’s not. I’ve been watching both leagues since the late 80s. Even with more money Serie A is way more competitive and interesting. The EPL has gotten to far away from its roots. Serie A will rise in the next 5 to 10 years. Forza Milan!

  3. Seems like we always jump in late to try and make it look like to the fans that we are trying to sign a player but really have no intention to do so.

We have been without Thiaw, Kalulu for 2 months and Tomori for a month – if we were really serious we, like Tottenham would have begun the discussions 2 months ago. So to me it seems like this was just for PR and we really hand no intention to get this player in the first place. Plus I’m sure we offered half the salary Spurs did. Good luck Dragusin

    1. Same with Taremi, the offered him 1.8 million euros for 3 years. They purposely sabotaged that. They are trying to do anything to avoid paying for a good player.
