Daniel Maldini of Italy

GdS: ‘Everyone wants Maldini’ – queue builds as Milan evaluate cut-price return

Daniel Maldini is attracting interest from a number of top clubs around Serie A, and AC Milan can be added to the list.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, several Italian sides are watching Maldini’s evolution with great interest. Atalanta, Inter, Milan, Juventus and also Fiorentina are the ones names, and his recent call-ups to Luciano Spalletti’s national team demonstrate the growth of the forward.

With Monza he has found stability and continuity in terms of opportunities. The intuition of the CEO Adriano Galliani is worth highlighting, because last January he got him on a six-month loan from Milan and he was able to make it permanent.

Not only that, but he bought him ‘practically for zero euros’ from Milan in the summer, but the Rossoneri have a 50% resale clause in their favour. There are two release clauses in Maldini’s current deal: one worth €12m for Italian clubs and the other €15m for teams abroad.

However, they are not valid for the winter transfer window, only for the summer one, and more precisely only for the month of July. If an offer arrives between 1st and 31st July 2025 that matches the clause, the ball will then pass to the player who will reserve the right to accept the move or not.

Looking at the teams interested, Atalanta have publicly declared their interest but they seem to have plenty of forwards in their team at the moment. Inter are carefully monitoring things, and seeing the Maldini name appear on the Nerazzurri shirt would cause a stir.

Juventus are fascinated by the possibility of inserting a talented Italian player into the squad, then Fiorentina – coached by Raffaele Palladino, who was at Monza last season – are keeping tabs on things too.

In all of this, it must be mentioned that Milan’s 50% clause effectively means they would be able to get him for half the price of other clubs. Thus, the management will be evaluating the opportunity to bring him back to his boyhood club.

  1. I don’t see why Maldini would want to return to Milan to be honest. This was a farcical management decision frankly, especially as having an extra no10 would be a really useful option at the moment.

    1. He wasn’t ready with us, just because he had 2 months of development doesn’t mean he’s a starter level… you wanna bench Reijnders or Puli or Morata? These are our current options…

There are many things to blame on this management but idk this to be one. Even more if we can get him for cheap if he continues to develop. Him, Ricci and Frendrup would finalize our midfield.

If not get Gnoto and let Puli be CAM more often, whiteout weakening RW too much.

What’s left is RB and ST then… but the actual problem with this management is that they won’t be this clean and will bring many randos out of which half won’t work out and we have to wait yet another season to get rid of deadwood and sign actual upgrades…

      1. To be honest, nobody was patient with him. It’s not that he was ready with us, just like CDK. Look at musah, Reijnders and Fofana and chukwueze. They too took time especially in the case of Reijnders.

It was just a manegerial mistake simple. And as always Milan is left wondering what could have been had they taken another route. This management is inimical to making decisions that favour the club. And Daniele Maldini is one of the many to happen.

      1. @Boulden!!!!!!

The kid resurfaces!! Hahahahaha. All it took was a “Maldini” mention – didn’t even matter which one it was lol

        God bless u buddy

        Cheers

    1. If I remember correctly then he only played roughly 500 minutes over all tournaments in the time with us so I agree he was never given a proper chance with us but that also goes back to previous management/coach. Never understood why we would develope Diaz for Real Madrid and even paying for it while not instead develope our own player.

      1. Because Diaz is far superior to Maldini in every way. It’s amazing what the last name Maldini will get you in Italy. I like the kid but please, let’s get real. He has 1 goal and zero assists in 11 matches for Monza. He didn’t get on the pitch for us because he wasn’t good enough to get on the pitch for us. He still isn’t . The fact that he was called up for the national team is a joke and says more about the lack of quality on the Italian national team than it does about Daniel’s talent.

        1. Completely disagree first of all as i mentioned he played roughly 500 minutes over all tournaments in all the years with us and mostly was fielded on the wings which isn’t the ideal positions for him. Diaz wasn’t really good enough for us either if you wanna go into details but at least we could have developed our own player compared to helping Madrid out. Same basically goes for jimenez who we are about to do the same with even though we will be able to earn 4 mil next year if the Spaniards buys him back in the summer 2025 or 7 mil in 2026.
Better to develope your own players than other club players. If you look at Maldinis combined time with Monza since joining them since January then he has roughly amassed 1100 minutes which equates to roughly 12 full matches played and scored 5 goals and made 2 assists. Sounds pretty good to me but what do I know 😀

          1. You would.be hard pressed to not try and present hard facts as to why Maldini did not do well here, as regarding to minutes. Which are clear hard facts.

Most folks would still jump on the wagon that goes Maldini was and is never that good, or it’s only his last name that opens doors. It is a travesty to agree one is wrong on a player.

Eg CDK, Tonali, Adli, Kalulu and now Maldini. The general consensus is they were and are bad. Despite evidences proving the opposite then and now.

          2. What exactly is the evidence for Maldini being good? 1 goal in 11 games for Monza this season? Seriously?
And what’s the evidence for Tonali being some great player? That he comes off the bench for a mid-table Premier League side? Ok. No Italian bias here at all…

          3. Briareos Yeah people will complain and when players succeed other places they will complain again, simply its their nature,

          4. K you are trying to portray a picture that he has played 11 matches when he has played here and there over those matches. Not to mention that he is playing for a currently struggling team which clearly should be taken into consideration as well.
The proof, he is a technical gifted player which is fairly easy for all to see, If you took my example from when he started at Monza in January until now its clearly a different picture isn’t it ? rhetorical question, yes it is.
So now Tonali isnt good either sure lets take your musings as real value and If anything it seems your bias goes against players being Italians.

      1. Maldini name is forbidden name in this trophyless cardinale milan.

Even though paolo maldini bring scudetto,
Cardinale hate maldini, he kick him out.

  3. This should serve as a lesson to this management, they simply wanted him gone because he was Maldini’s son.
Any right thinking person would have seen the immense potential he has, his physical attributes, his technique, speed and versatility, his Italian heritage, but no, the management behaved like fools that they are, we need to stop concentrating on average foreign crap and buy good Italian players, can you honestly compare him to someone like Chukweze, who is a one trick pony, the good thing is we could get him back quickly for a fair price….

    1. No, the name Maldini is the only reason any of you even want him on the team. he has 1 goal and assist and 4 yellow cards for Monza in 11 matches this season. What other player with those numbers would you guys be excited about getting? What a tragic mistake we have made…

  4. Hindsight is 20/20. I thought we should have loaned him out this season but if I’m honest, he didn’t look a Milan level player to me, and sometimes a loan – where you are under pressure to impress your parent club, is more pressure than a fresh start.

If it ends up having cost us 6m for him to go away and prove his worth then that’s not the end of the world. Us fans would be happy to see him back, but is it what the board and/or the player want????

    1. Daniel has up to now 1 goal and 1 assist in Serie A in 708 minutes played.
Chukwueze has up to now 1 goal in Serie A in 508 minutes played. He also has 1 assist in the UCL on 41 minutes played.

By stats alone Chuk is more useful for Milan than Maldini has been for Monza.

      1. he play w/ Monza.
did u also count their turn-over, mistakes, wasted chances?
we all know who’s the burden & who’s the upgrade in their club.

  5. Milan just see him as a cash cow. Get him back at a lower price and then resell. The fact that Milan choose RLC as CAM and let him leave for peanuts speaks volumes… I would love to see him at Inter or juventus, that would be amazing coupled with the fact that he loves scoring against Milan

  6. Maldini isn’t starting caliber for Milan. He needs to develop at smaller clubs. A lot of love for that name. But objectivity lacks. He isn’t starting over Reijnders or Puli… So what gives?

    1. Even if he doesn’t initially becomes a starter then he could easily be the backup for Pulisic and then start some matches here and there as well. I certainly would prefer him as our backup CAM compared to for example Loftus and he would also cost far less in salary.

  7. I never saw Daniel Maldini as convincing. I think he is actually quite mediocre. People now praise him for supposedly doing well at Monza, a relegation level team; it’s easy to be considered good when nobody else in the team is good. At Milan he has never shown any qualities; he was with us exclusively because of his last name. For me, good riddance. I love his father as a footballer but Daniel is no Paolo.
