Former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato has said that he cannot imagine the club without Paolo Maldini involved in some capacity.
Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pato explained that he cannot envisage Paolo Maldini not being part of Milan as talk around his future continues.
His contract as technical director is going to expire at the end of June this year but it is expected that he will be signing a new deal once that takeover by RedBird Capital Group is completed.
“I can say one thing: it’s difficult for Americans to enter a club and change things that work. Paolo is a flag, but he is also the manager who has shown he knows how to manage the group.”
Pato went on to enthuse further about the quality of the former Italy centre back who is regarded as one of the greatest defenders in the history of the sport.
“He is an important element even now, he is not just the man who made Milan’s history. Those who make history receive respect, but Paolo is more than that now because he has shown that he is at the top even in his new role.
“And I don’t think the new ownership will want to deprive him, I can’t imagine Milan without Maldini.”
He made almost 650 appearances at the back for Milan throughout his career. Pato made 117 appearances for the Rossoneri in a successful spell between 2007 and 2013.
He was part of the 2011 title winning side as well.
I think elliot just dont want to pay extra signing bonus, as they are gonna sell soon.
Fully agreed with Pato
