SempreMilan.com had the opportunity to talk with Rodrigo Bueno, Brazilian journalist of Fox Sports, asking about the Rossoneri’s Brazilian starlet Paqueta, as well as other transfer targets.
Q: Would Everton be a good fit for AC Milan?
A: “I think that Everton “Cebolinha” is a good player and can help Milan. He has speed and good dribbling. He had a problem with finishing, but he has improved in this aspect. This earned him the call-up to the Brazilian national team. I received information from a southern source that Leonardo met with the president of Gremio to sign the player.
“As far as I am concerned, Milan can pay around €35m for him. I think football is very inflated, I do not really know if Everton is worth this much, but it is the football market nowadays. Leonardo is doing his job, seeking to strengthen Milan with a Brazilian national team player who can still be resold later.”
Q: Do you think Milan have a chance of signing him?
A: “I believe that Milan can sign Everton. The player was somewhat seduced by the interest of the Italian red-black. It seems to me that his plan is to go to Europe in the middle of the year. Gremio already know this, I would imagine. The fee that is being spoken is very good for a Brazilian club.
“The problem is the competition of Manchester City. Guardiola likes Everton and has been trying to sign him as well. At the end of the last year, there was an attempt to land him. As far as I am concerned, Manchester City would be able to match any offer made by Milan. They are willing to pay around €50m.”
Q: What do you think about Paqueta?
A: “Lucas is a versatile player, he acts as a defensive midfielder, as a playmaker, as a winger and even as a striker, if necessary. He has talent, but he is far from being the new Kaka. He has a good mentality, he is a group player, he gives himself to the team. I imagine that he will evolve in European football, but alone he will not solve Milan’s problems.”
Q: Are there any other Brazilian players Milan are looking at?
A: “I know that Leonardo has an interest in the young Antony, a great revelation this year in Brazilian football. He was a champion of the São Paulo Junior Cup in January, and he was the biggest highlight of the competition. He became a starter of the main team of São Paulo and helped the team to reach the final of Paulista Championship. He has extreme skill, dribbles like few, and has the personality to face any defender.
“He is a sensation of Brazilian football, but it will be difficult for São Paulo to sell it now unless the offer is very high. It is easier for São Paulo to sell Igor Gomes, another gem that was in the Brazilian U-20 team, as well as Antony. Igor Gomes reminds us of Kaka a bit. Antony is more like Robinho, he works by the edge of the field. He’s left-footed, but he plays on the right,” Bueno concluded.
SempreMilan.com would like to thank Rodrigo Bueno for taking the time to answer the questions.
