All eyes on Morata as Milan fans prepare for Spain-England final

By Isak Möller -

Alvaro Morata appears to be just one step away from joining AC Milan, having given them the initial go-ahead, and the final answer is expected in the coming days. First, however, he will be fully focused on winning the Euros with Spain.

Spain have been the best team in the tournament thus far and after beating France in the semi-finals, they will be up against England. Bar the first half against the Netherlands, the Three Lions have been far from brilliant and Spain are the favourites.

Their captain, Morata, has been heavily linked with Milan in recent weeks and an agreement appears to be just one step away. The striker is currently focused on the Euros and will make his final decision after, but both his entourage and Milan are confident.

Tonight, the final will take place – more specifically at 21:00 CEST – and most Milan fans will be keeping a close eye on Morata. Being one of the biggest games you can play as a footballer, it will certainly tell us a lot even if it won’t be a deal-breaker in the Rossoneri’s eyes.

It remains to be seen who will come out on top but as said, Morata’s Spain are the favourites to lift the trophy later this evening.

  1. Like most of his career he has been completely irrelevant during the Euros. Don’t try to hype up a mediocre player.

  2. He has been hopeless in the tournament thus far. So much so, the Spanish press and fans have been calling for the captaincy to be removed and the player dropped

  3. Think spain grew the most in this tournament. England, despite their deep talent pool, look like headless chickens most od the time.

  4. Get him done! Bring him! He didn’t score in that final, but was still important. Spain proves they are the best team in the world, time and time again. Italy should follow the model.

  5. Well the lad seemed to do quite alright with a couple of skillful wingers around him! Not sure he’ll find an Olmo sort to link up with in Italy though, unless we get Pulisic in the centre.

  6. Morata was himself alright. Missed chances, dived a lot and was in agony not to mention the incident were he was furious with Saka & the ref.

Yeah. We can do sooooo much better. Morata can watch Füllkrug play.

  7. I’m surprised by the amount of criticism here – for me he was good all tournament – story of his career though, loved by teammates and coaches and questioned by media and fans.

He’s not a converter of low-percentage opportunities, but was crucial in the Spanish attack and was a key part of why Olmo, Yamal and Williams had the space to work in. Worked constantly leading the press, was responsible for a lot of turned over balls and for completion the attacking transition by receiving the ball from midfield, turning a man and laying it off – the more I watch, the more I see that similarity with Zirkzee, although obviously lacking a lot of the physical characteristics (although he uses that to win a lot of free kicks).

His limitations are obvious – big pressure moments and chance conversion rate, but looking at his upsides I can see how it worked. Hope he can be fit for the season start though.
