Fanatik: Milan will bid above release clause to beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to Turkish star

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are ready to actually bid higher than the release clause for Fenerbahce’s Arda Guler in order to beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to his signature, a report claims.

As has been reported by Fanatik (via Milan News), the Rossoneri are ready to actually bid around €22 million for Guler, which is more than the €17.5m release clause in his contract.

Added to that €22m will be the bonuses and a percentage of the future resale of Guler. This would be the highest offer made for Guler and Milan hope it will be enough to fend off the serious interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid, offers that may be more attractive to the player.

Barcelona would be ready to include Guler in the first team straight away, which is not the case for Real Madrid.

This sort of move is only really possible with the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle.

  1. Huh? Say Milan paid 22M and Madrid bid 17.5M, the value reflected in the release clause, Fenerbahce would by law be required to accept that Madrid bid too, right? Am I missing something?

    1. We are talking about Furliani here, the same guy that offers to pay for Lille’s 20 million in the Leao affair that had no business doing that…

    2. yeah they would have to accept that offer as well so it doesnt really make much sense to offer that ammount.

There were some rumors though that fenerbache wanted a new higher release clause set at 40 mil or something and that the player and his father would be somewhat willing to accommodate that wish, If that is the case maybe milan is trying to do it this way but thats pretty far away from such sum, But who knows maybe they will throw in rebic and origi on top of it as well.

      1. Yes, but that does not work like that. They don’t even have to accept. Release clause can be activated without the club. That is how Arsenal bought Partey and Atl. Madrid was informed by La Liga, not by anyone else. 😀

This is the official statement from Atletico.

“LaLiga informed Atlético de Madrid at 11.28pm on Monday that Arsenal representatives have paid Thomas Partey’s release clause at the sports association’s headquarters.

The player has therefore unilaterally terminated his contract with our club, which ran until June 30, 2023. ”

For example, Real can agree it all with Guler, send that money and sign him without even talking with Fenerbahce.

        1. I think you are missing my point in regard of the player and his father/agent that they apparently are willing to renew his contract in gratitude to the club so they get a better deal wgen sold.
Milan might try to make an offer higher to prevent that happening.
Either way thats the only reason i can think of why this could be a thing but i assume its nonesense that we have offered more to begin with.

          1. Yeah, I figured that Martin, but I suspect his father might also want him to stay there for another year, I think Real is offering that. But the whole “point” of the article is just ridiculous. So Real Madrid will be deterred from signing a player the like because Milan offered 5M more. I think we all know that never happened.

          2. Absolutely but i also just tried to explain what could be behind such gypothetical offer but i question the story nevertheless and also believe its pure fantasy.

        2. It’s a bit different contract to contract. There’s a unique rule in Spain that says every player’s contract that’d registered must have a release clause.

Elsewhere, they’re not quite that straightforward. In England, you’d have to officially submit the bid to the club in order to discuss terms with the player (though obviously these days they just speak to the agent first), not sure how it works in Turkey.

It’s also possible there are other clauses, such as “if bids are submitted for higher than the release clause value then the selling club doesn’t have to accept bids lower than the highest bid”.

For the record, I suspect this story is made up nonsense, I’m just saying how it could be true.

          1. If his contract has a release clause of 17.5M that is it. Basic law. They send the money now and bring the player tonight. That is how it works anywhere, it is a contract clause, both parties need to respect what they signed.

I agree there can be others but what you mentioned was never seen. The whole point of the clause is to protect the players future, so they can leave if the club is asking for too much, adding a different one like you mentioned is 100% pointless. It would basically cancel this one, so why add one at all?

LOL. Ya sure. What about all that UCL $$$$$ we have yet to spend???? Never a mention about that. Seems to have magically vanished.

I hope we get this kid – but he is just that – another KID – who needs TIME to develop to a new country, language, culture, tactics, etc….IF YOU WANT TO WIN NOW – this is a PROSPECT you sign IN ADDITION to a STARTING ready made player (RW) – and not as the ONLY player you add for that position. By the time this kid develops Leao, Theo, etc.. be sold for $$$……

BUT – this is the Redbird way

  4. Let’s spend our money wisely, but yet we’ll add 5m to an offer for absolutely no reason whatsoever. A release clause is there for a reason. You pay it the club has zero choice. Only the player himself can agree or disagree a contract so why would we hand them more? If furlani doesn’t know this he really shouldn’t be leading this milan

  5. BS. What’s the point? If anyone pays the release clause, the club can’t say sh*t and you’ve wasted time negotiating with the wrong people. Just add whatever fee in bonuses for the player.

    1. Think again. Go check out some of the scouting videos on Youtube. His dribbling, passing and creativity is better than anything Milan have right now. If they can make this happen they should immediately. It would make the sale of Tonali well worth it.

  6. Everyone settle down. Either there is no true release clause or this is just wrong. Either way another very poor article which is filled with subjectivity and a lack of actual substance (like how a frenerbache can reject an offer that meets the release clause). Unfortunately this is becoming the standard at Sempre Milan…

    1. Yep. BS article. Why would Real Madrid sign this kid when they have Bellingham, Camavinga, Ceballos, Diaz, Kroos, Modric, Tchouameni and Valverde in midfield? Barcelona are also stacked in MF. This rumours, probably from the kid’s agents, are designed to make it look like Milan will win the race for a coveted player when the reality is if any wealthy club wanted him, he’d have already signed.

  7. So we can’t meet asking prices of some players but can overbid on others? I don’t get the system here. Not that the kid isn’t worth it…

  8. Something doesn’t make sense with the Loftus- Cheek and Guler interests. I believe we can only register one more Non-EU player since we are bringing in Kamada who will take one of those spots or if we get rid of Devin Vazquez can we use his Non-EU spot for either Cheek or Guler?

  9. Now that we are close to getting Loftus-Cheek, he will take up one of the two Non-EU spots we have available, the other being Kamada. So what happens now with Guler who needs a Non EU spot or if we get rid of Devin Vazquez does that free up a spot for Guler?
